i know we're a small board, but would the music section be more active if there was only one topic? i have no idea, let's find out. if it works, i suppose we can make a new topic every month like the randomness thread. so basically its randommusictalk
=====
So hello august!. all the albums i was looking forward to this month have already leaked, except for the sisterhood of the traveling pants 2 soundtrack. am i serious? Michelle Branch is gonna be on it and it's not a single, but it's gonna be her first solo track that isnt a cover song in 5 years. yay!
is Conor Oberst or The Walkmen's new albums worth a listen?
and lately i've notice a lot of indie bands are releasing vinyl records which i dont see the point. but supposedly it sounds better? i have no clue, but my local indie record store has a bunch of albums so i've been contemplating if i should get one. anyone have one?

i havent listened to it.. but i was watching indiana jones and the last crusade and one of the nazi's name was "herr oberst." and that ends my contribution.
and i have many vinyls, but nothing to play them on. its rather sad but i fully intend to get a player eventually.. its a matter of money really.

so i finally got a new external harddrive, my last one died on me ..i had like 400gigs of music, stuff i've been downloading since 2002. i remember in high school (that was 2004 for me), someone said "i heard that the music you listen to in HS is the music you listen to for the rest of your life." but i pretty much shit on everything i used to listen to except for Michelle Branch and pre-Geffen LH. so yeah, i'm sure normal people would be upset if they lost a lot of files, but i kinda felt relieved that i don't have to carry it with me anymore and i can start clean. anyways. i had my main stuff that i need on the go on my ipod so it's not much of a lost. Now i gotta re-download my Beatles and Queen Discography.
on a side note, how do you guys label your mp3s? i find it weird that people have it as Artist - Title.mp3. I like having the track numbers in my filenames so when i open the folder, it's already in tracklisting order. so it'll be like Artist/Album/Track# Title.mp3
so Ray LaMontagne is gonna release a new CD on October 14th. His voice is sick. I prefer his first album to his second, so i'm hoping his third will be more accessible.
Los Campesinos! is releasing another album this year. They claim it's not a b-sides album, so that makes me excited. october 13. eek!
Max Richter's new album is toooooo short. He's contemporary classical. it's kinda weird because half of the songs are pretty, and the other half are blah. I'll need more time to digest it.
I just discovered Jens Carelius a few days ago. They say he sounds like Nick Drake and i semi- agree.

Musical randomness...me likes. So, I've recently begun obsessing over Paramore. which is kinda weird because when I first heard Misery Business i kinda really didn't like it. It's still not one of my favorite songs by them, but Emergency totally won me over. that and My Heart. anyway...and a few days ago my uncle was going through his cds and gave me a box full of cds he didn't want anymore. A lot of classic rock, but I'm all for it. (and there was a Hanson cd in there...me likey) Since I only fairly recently became a self-proclaimed music junkie, I only had 18 albums before. Now i have like 51 I think. So that makes me feel better. Anyone listened to Thriving Ivory? the only song I've heard by them is Angels on the Moon, but I like it. The dude's voice kind of annoyed me at first, but I guess it's grown on me. Plus lyrically it's a good song, IMO. and I will take this opportunity to say that I'm going to a concert! I mentioned this long ago, but I'm still happy about it so i'll re-mention it. I won tickets to see 3 Doors Down, Hinder, and Finger Eleven in September. 3 Doors Down...yeah i'm happy. Totally wish it was LH instead, but oh well it happens. wow...I ramble. woops.

Michelle Branch - "Together" It's alright. she wrote it for the movie so i'm forgiving. I think the guitar melody is fine and her vocals, although has a country flare to it, she sounds great. But because the chorus begins with "we belong together," Gavin DeGraw always enters my mind. So yeah, i'm nitpicking. to me, it just feels that the chorus and the verse are two separate ideas and i hate it when that happens. but it also could be my fault because i had the 30 seconds of the chorus on loop on my myspace page. also, she needs to control her urges to sing "whoa" at the end of her songs.

Snow Patrol released the name of the next album "a hundred million suns". I love the title. It's very intriguing. I can't wait for this album to come out, but it will be hard to beat Eyes Open in my mind lol. That album never gets old for me.
Jack's Mannequin's new single is on their myspace and now in iTunes. I dunno, I didn't like it the first time I listen to it, but I'm liking it more now. It's growing on me.

For me though, it'll be hard to beat Final Straw - unless it has anything above songs like Chocolate and How to be Dead. It's good that they'll be releasing a new album soon though! Any new JM/Andrew McMahon song should be a celebration on its own. I can't wait for The Glass Passenger as well as the release of the Dear Jack movie! I'm going to consider live music as part of this talk as well. So recently I had the privillege to watch Travis perform and I have to say, I can't wait to listen to this song called Song To Self in all its studio glory!

Any news from the band that shares a name with your user name? I know Roddy is doing another solo album next Spring, but haven't heard anything about the full band.

I've fallen in love with two bands that I saw at Lollapalooza. The Raconteurs and Okkervil River.

I watched that documentary "Shine a Light" about the rolling stones. never was a fan before, but i kinda like them now. Beatles are still better. Oasis's new song is so-so. Keane's new song is flashy. Peter Bjorn and John has a new album out in September. i'm currently into Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson. crazy one man band.

I have to admit, the new Oasis song doesn't really do ANYTHING for me.

absolutepunk's absolute 100usually its bands that are under the radar. The Script are the number 1 album in the uk. it's okay. the Jonas Brothers are lame as hell. Britney Spears looks really 'good' in her VMA ads. new wilco album in the spring. Damon Albarn, the guy from Blur and Gorillaz did some Chinese album called "Monkey: Journey to the West" and i'm guessing i'm missing out on the visuals, but I'm really not digging it. earlier this year, I though Bonnie 'Prince' Billy's new album was dry, but i gave it another listen and now i love it. I'm expecting a new Moving Mountains EP by the end of the month. they currently aren't touring which was one of the reasons it was delayed. I'm not a huge fan of chillout/house, but Lindstrøm's new album is awesome.

I just can't wait for the new Daniel Bedingfield CD to come out.
He said he had 3 albums worth of music written/recorded on his computer out in LA... ... then some douche bags broke in, trashed his place, and stole many things (including his computer and recording software along with allll the new music)
