Lets see which ones I listened to:
Third Eye Blind (reviewed that one) was much better than I thought, and I really am curious to hear Ursa Major
Dido, it's alright, but no way does it measure up with her previous work
Taylor Swift.. meh, never been a big fan, but its not getting any better I think
Joshua Radin: not his best album, but I can't not like what he does
GIAA, I agree with what you said
Butch Walker, I don't know how he does it, but he keeps improving (reviewed this one too)
Glad to see we have another Alli Rogers convert.. she's pregnant now, so I don't expect anything new soon. You & The Evening Sky is good, but I still think her debut is by far her best album. It's simple, honest and pure, and more open to interpretation. At Sea, however, is one of her best songs.
Jon Foreman has more freedom in his arrangements in his solo work, and the vocals come out better, but I don't really feel like comparing it to Switchfoot too much. Switchfoot's more fun, JF solo is better musically IMO
Nickelback, I just don't feel this album. Besides, they ALWAYS sound the same
David Cook, he's not untalented but he tries too much, it sounds forced. And he needs to find his groove more. When he did the OLP cover on AI I didn't really like it too much, and his SF cover didn't turn out too great either. I feel like he strains his voice too much too, while he actually has a pretty good range, so why not just use it and let it come naturally, I think it would make his future albums more diverse and plain better musically.
Some other things that I listened to:
HoneyHoney - First Rodeo .. I had heard most of the songs already, and it's a solid album. Pretty much what I had expected. Nothing that makes me cry from joy, but it is better than a lot of crap that we hear nowadays
Aeroplane - Wishstar .. not a bad band, but nothing new musically
Satellite State - {satellite state} ep .. this was THE discovery for me.. they are kinda in between Snow Patrol, Coldplay, Delaware, with a bit of an Idlewild/Feeder feel mixed in it. And I honestly believe that they are no less than these bands. I think out of these Feeder will still be my #1 pick, then Idlewild but Satellite State is almost tied with Idlewild for me..
Donavon Frankenreiter - Pass It Around ... One of the best albums of the year, simply amazing
Calexico - Carried To Dust .. listened to this for quite awhile, but for Calexico I need some time to let it sink in.. but all I can say is WOW
Solo - Before We Part.. Michiel Flamman's really back. The first album was nice and intimate, the 2nd was richer with more synthesizer in it, and this third is just so pure and melodic. One of the best indie pop songwriters in the world.
