This album is really plain and no song stick out to me. The production is really bad with this cowboy inspired sound. I can find a few decent songs, Aftermath is pretty good with this casting crowns vibe to it in the vocals. Only you're the one has a catchiness to it but they have over produced it. Between the raindrops is an alright song but not up to the LH standard. I can't find any song that will do well on radio on this album, I'm quite disappointed to be honest I will always compare every LH album to one of the best albums ever made NNF and maybe that's not fair but the whole feeling and sincerity on that album is so powerful. What really breaks my heart is that this is not the Lifehouse that I cherish and love, all the other albums have had the LH feeling, some more than others but it has always been there. But on this album I can't find it at all I will give it some more time but I doubt that I'll grow to love Almeria

It’s going to be interesting to see where the band goes to next. Almeria was born out of them wanting to evolve and change but it has both divided fans and commercially disappointed. This is the band’s first real flop (not bad when you consider NNF was released in 2000) and I think this is a make-or-break time for them. I think working with a completely different producer next time or taking a long break will do wonders for Jason's songwriting as well as the band itself. Maybe the fact that the new album has underperformed will lead to the band separating for a little while to recharge their batteries. Jason has talked about wanting to start a family and has also expressed an interest in making music for films, Bryce and Ben both have side projects, whilst Rick plays drums on material for other people. Maybe the band don't care that the album has flopped commercially. They seem to be really energized and excited when talking about the album and when performing the new material live. Jason himself has said that the important thing to him is making music he believes in and having it touch the fans, whether Geffen Records will see it like that I don't know.
I can’t help but think that Stanley Climbfall under-performing in 2002 really threw a spanner in the works. The sound on Lifehouse ’05 seemed like such calculated move to win back over radio and to try and achieve big commercial success again. I personally think Almeria is the first album the band have made in years where they didn't have one eye on trying to come up with a big hit single. Maybe I'm wrong. I'm not saying that the band have been releasing music they don't believe in or aren't proud of, I just mean that SC not doing that well maybe shook them up a little and made them take one step back instead of one step forwards.
I’d like to make it clear that I don’t think Lifehouse have ever released a bad album, far from it. They're one of just a few few bands I've come to rely to release consistently strong albums.

My first reaction after the whole set of clips: "What the fuck?!" yes me too! Some songs got better. Hoping the others are growers....

I will vote with my wallet by not buying this record. Without saying thanks to fans (except Bryce) was cherry at the top of the cake. The only other album inlay booklet I think the band has thanked the fans in is Who We Are. I don't think they necessarily mean anything by that or wish to come across as ungrateful. They're always showing their appreciation towards fans at shows and during interviews. Try to locate names like Sergio, Serge or Sean. Exactly. Sergio hasn't played in the band for a good 9 years now. They've released four albums since then and have moved on both personally and professionally. Jason said himself that he and Sergio drifted apart after SC and that is was sad but it happens. I don't think there's anything wrong with the band not thanking all the former band members years after they've left. I'm sure they don't harbor any ill feelings and wish them nothing but the best. Imagine if the current members of Fleetwood Mac listed their thanks to every other former band member, It'd take up as much room as the lyrics. There's limited space in an album inlay. Btw, Jason actually thanked Diff in the Smoke & Mirrors inlay booklet.

I just went back to look at it and realized, it wasn't a blanket thank you to all fans -- it was actually specific to the fanbases at LHF and lifehousemusic. I'm not making commentary on that, just pointing it out because I never realized that before. edit: I realize I haven't been posting often when I forget how to post a picture on the board

Ha, I also remember seeing that, being really excited, and then LHF was closed soon after.

Almería has really grown on me a lot this last month; in fact I’ll even go as far saying it’s now my third favourite Lifehouse album. It’s not that I didn’t like it before or anything it’s just some of the songs took a while to break through and really make their mark on me. I guess I should have waited longer before originally commenting on it . I for one really like the country twang and classic rock feel they’ve incorporated into many of the tracks. Songs like “Right Back Home”, “Slow Motion” and “Barricade” in particular are very organic songs that sound fantastic and completely natural to the band. I admire them for going into the studio and trying something a little different this time around. It definitely suits them and doesn’t feel like a calculated move that it so often can when bands try to shake things up. I’ve read quite a few complaints on Amazon and other review sites about the album “not sounding like Lifehouse” and it promptly being dismissed as rubbish. I don’t agree with this at all. It’s still a Lifehouse album at the core. Songs like “Aftermath” and “Where I Come From” in particular have that classic Lifehouse sound and feel everyone knows and loves. Most of the other songs are still very much rock/pop but with more of a country twist this time around. “Only You’re the One” and “Nobody Listen” are probably the most poppy sounding songs on the album; they sound like they could have easily been recorded during the Smoke & Mirrors album sessions. I’m just sorry that Almeria hasn’t done that well. What was promotion like in the US prior to its release? It’s great to see the band so energized when performing the new songs live. They’re obviously proud of the new material and are really behind it which is great. Lifehouse is one of the few bands I’ve come to rely on for consistently strong albums. It’s not simply a case of the singles and few other decent tracks in amongst mostly filler. They really take their time to create excellent albums that are worth investing our time and money into. Perhaps Almeria will influence the band to bring on board a different producer next time and push themselves even more.
