ok, I kinda agree with you on the 'dirt' *even though I cannot really explain it.
it's more polished than it was *I cannot watch two of the vids, but yeah:p*
but I have been to 15 of their concerts and their energy has not changed for the worst in my opinion..got better even (nor the energy of the crowd in my opinion..Pinkpop 2003 showed that only the first first rows rocked and pinkpop 2011 showed the same for instance.
If I compare their 2002 concerts to now, it might sound more polished, but it also looks and feels more professional. and I really like what they do with the songs musically but, a little less polished would not do them any harm:-D

I think celticflower said already what I'd say, so no need to repeat this. But it is indeed funny that you compared those songs (at first) to Falling In, you should at least compare them to Nerve Damage, Wrecking Ball, Here Tomorrow Gone Today, All In and not to Falling In. When I compare LH live from the first show's I've seen from 2001-2003 and from the last shows I've seen 2010-2011 the new LH wins, it's the whole package that is better. They have a great chemistry on stage together, Jason is no longer afraid of the audience, he was like a little kid without his mother in the early years and seemed lost on stage, now he has a great presence. But, different people, different opinions and I don't think there is much left to say that we haven't already!?!

If I compare their 2002 concerts to now, it might sound more polished Logic Pro has stolen their sound.

I enjoyed a few songs off S&M but IMO it was their worst album to date. I miss the raw sound from NNF/DLD. The effects they used, the way Jason sang, etc. NNF was a great record. As much as I keep holding on to that earlier sound I think it's time to realize we probably won't ever hear it again.
Sorry for the rant... I just miss my old Lifehouse =P ... *starts playing DLD*

Being critical or being disappointed is not necessarily being negative. I think fans are allowed to express their feelings and perception of the musicians they support. Being a fan doesn't mean you necessarily have to love everything the band does. So far I think the debate's been very civil.

Word Koen!
For me Wrecking Ball is not Lifehouse. Consider it as you want but LH song without Jason a being lead singer is not LH.
Glad to see that I'm not the only one who is missing that old raw sound.

I agree on Wrecking Ball not feeling like Lifehouse. However, I do think it was one of the better songs on Smoke & Mirrors, though for me the title track was the track that really stood out, maybe along with Nerve Damage.
About the raw sound, it's not necessarily the raw sound I miss, but I miss something that sets Lifehouse apart from the other bands in their genre. A certain uniqueness. I can still hear it when they perform live, so I know they still have it, but the new songs don't really display that uniqueness in my opinion. However, knowing they still know how to do it, I am very curious for what they come up with next. I don't mind one or two songs that are more in line with what's on the radio, especially if those songs are co-writes. I mean, radio exposure's a good thing. It sells records.. but I would at least like to see more of a balance between those songs and songs that showcase Lifehouse's uniqueness.

I can see Rein's point, but also have to agree with Koen, that a good hearty discussion, while respecting each other's views,is a good thing:-D Lifehouse does things/produces songs that we like or do not like and I think this is the place to discuss those feelings. I never thought of Wrecking ball not as an LH song, but hmm. I do really like the song though:-)
the album will be a long wait, but let's hope there are some gems on there:-D
