Based on Steve’s recent IG, Jason has a new solo album coming soon and it’s “amazing.”

2021 turns out to be an eventful year for Ozwald, Jason Wade & Lifehouse. Color me excited!

Jason confirms 10 tracks — very exciting! Wonder if these are new or older songs.

I'm bracing myself for more "Dragonflies" style songs.

I’m worried more about the mixing and mastering that might result in the mono compressed sound that makes it so hard to listen to Dragonflies. It’s odd because even the Ozwald songs sounded better and had more space in them than this new one I would like it otherwise but I just feel like I’m missing everything when I put it on and that hurts!

'One of These Days' is an absolutely beautiful song – if this is indicative of the upcoming album, I think I'm gonna like it even more than Paper Cuts ) Ode to Silence feels like such a Jason title too haha. How cool is it that the song (or album!?) is a benefit song like 'The Way You Remember Me' from last year, supporting a food bank in San Diego?

Also, can we just take a moment and reflect on how much music this group has made since OOTW? It's been six years since the last Lifehouse album, but it's been the most prolific six years of Jason's career in terms of output:
2017: Paper Cuts LP Highways & Low Days EP Winzlo Vol.1 EP Shine Like Gold (feat. Switchfoot) single 2019: Gresham EP Sweet Delirium LP Demoes Vol 1 EP Born In A State LP Covers Vol 1 EP 2020: The Way You Remember Me single Head Movies LP For Polly Anna LP 2021: Young Suburban Minds LP Cut & Run / Dragonflies / Statis / En Rogue Ode to Silence LP ØZWALD Album 6
Also in there was a Greatest Hits album and corresponding tour, a smattering of shows in Europe and North America, a global pandemic, and trying out running his own record label. Pretty impressive stuff!

I mean, yeah…but can we take a second and appreciate quality over quantity? Some of that is subjective obviously, but a ton of what he’s put out has been old previously unreleased stuff, a ton of covers, and also a ton of crap that blends together lol! You’re still right that it’s been a ton of content, I just hope the quality picks up again. The first Ozwald album seemed to be mixed & produced pretty well, and then everything has taken a nose dive since then. Whether you like the new stuff or not, I don’t think it’s really debatable that it’s been low quality production wise. I’m actually a big fan of En Rogue, Cut & Run, and even Static….but it’s all a bit too muddy. En Rogue especially could be incredible (in my opinion) if it were cleaned up. I don’t mean the intentional voice effects he’s been experimenting with, but just an overall muddy mix to everything as of late. Oh well! There’s a lot of promising stuff still to come. I also hope that new version of Dragonflies eventually surfaces too.

By 'low quality' you're referring to audio quality right? I think the songwriting has been pretty solid for the most part (maybe some of the Highways & Low Days EP was kinda cheesy haha, but one takes what one can get and Pulse and Forever & Never were pretty sweet). I totally agree that starting with Paper Cuts, everything has been either lo-fi or poorly mixed and mastered; OOTW was the last "full" sounding thing they've made, and everything else has lost fidelity and lacks audible depth. Interestingly Jude seems to have vanished in this time, so I wonder whether he was responsible for being that voice to tell them to send their music out for mastering?
I'm impressed nonetheless, and this is the purpose of my post, with the amount (and quality of writing) of the work recently. Some phenomenally creative composition work with Ozwald – Requiem VII, Time, After the Glowin, Daydreams, Burning for Days, Fair Thee Well, and a bunch of others feel so much fun to me despite the whole lo fi thing.

I thought this one was pretty good but still not a fan of the vocal effects. I love hearing his voice front and center and completely raw.. that's where the magic is IMO.

^agreed – I think it feels more raw than Oz but less processing would be nice. One of These Days and this song are both pretty solid, classic Jason songs – the lyrical imagery fits Blyss era stuff and the yellow demoes and they're both quite melodic. I'm pretty excited to hear this album, in CD form for max quality. Has anyone here bought any Ozwald in record form? If so what did it sound like? Also he posted some lyrics on Instagram back in the winter and spring of 2021, for One of These Days, Ode to Silence, Leonard Cohen Nights, and I'm Still Here (Chernobyl):

New song called Time Machine out! More folky sound, a fair bit of string instrumentation.

New song called Time Machine out! More folky sound, a fair bit of string instrumentation. Strings are what stood out to me. They’re fantastic. I’m not sure where I’m at with these new solo tunes yet. Steve really pumped the album up on Instagram a month or so again and I’m not sure it’s to the level he pumped it up to be yet.
