Lynn, that's the way I feel about Smoke & Mirrors. I know it sounds weird, but I want to keep for myself(ourselves) not the general public. Good to know that I'm not the only one being selfish Koen and Yuliya, I agree with you that Falling In can put the band in a certain category of musicians that might not be a good fit. And in that respect, the songs that you suggest are indeed a better fit. On the other hand, I also think that the songs that you suggest are somewhat less likely to become a commercial succes (but just like Yuliya, I have no experience in the music industry whatsoever. So, I too am just giving you an opinion that is based on nothing else but my gutt-feeling, which can be totally off base). And it seems that the commercial success is giving the band the opportunity to play cities outside the US. So, whatever it takes to get them over here...

It Is What It Is already proved to be a commercially viable option. If they'd pick Had Enough they could exploit the Daughtry angle, Here Tomorrow Gone Today has a very current radio vibe to it, and with a bit of TV and radio promo that ball would most definitely get rolling. Smoke & Mirrors I could see as a success, but I could also see how it would kinda hit its max pretty fast, that'd be a bigget leap of faith probably, same kinda goes for In Your Skin.

I do see it as an elevator song, not as a commercial radio success, but with radio singles these days you can't really tell anymore, there's such a diversity in styles, formats and such that succeeds as a radio single while the traditional radio formats are not necessarily doing as well anymore, so I guess promotion and marketing is a much bigger factor these days.

Funny how opinions can diverge so much.
I never thought of It Is What It Is as commercial (in terms of the way it sounds), but when I listened to it this morning on my way to work I can kinda see where you're coming from. I agree though, that it's a commercially viable option (they considered it for release, right?). From what I've heard the general public seems to like it.

Has anyone heard the radio version of Falling In yet? Any idea if it will be any different?
I think it could've brought them a lot of new attention had it been done as a duet. I definitely did not like Alyssa Bernal with Jason singing it, but I liked the idea of it...

There were three of my Twitter friends in the US that heard "Falling In" on the radio yesterday. None of them heard Alyssa Bernal's voice in it, so I'm guessing it's the original version from the album. It's pretty exciting that it's already playing!!! I just have this overwhelming feeling that it's on it's way to #1 !!!! Go Lifehouse!!!

Falling In is already very very naive and boring song but with her it's even worst. I know I 'sound' harsh but this time I just coudn't stay speechless.

I happen to like the song a lot and think it will do really well on the radio. I loved the IDEA of the duet, but I never really loved HOW Alyssa sang her part even though I like her as a singer. But I think it's cool that Lifehouse was thinking about changing things up and thinking outside their usual box anyways. Don't be scared...it's only played...on the RA-DI-O.... lol

As crazy as it sounds that's a very good thing. After all there are some promising recrods coming out from Switchfoot, Seether and 3 Doors Down.

As far as I know, Falling In was NEVER recorded with Alyssa. I just referred to that since they did randomly sing it as a duet live in concert, and I believe on 1 or 2 random TV appearances. I was just curious if there was a radio version that was edited differently, or maybe even recorded differently. Also, I remember back on a twitter Q&A the guys had mentioned some sort of interest in a duet with a girl... Not that they ever actually wrote or recorded a song for it, just that they would be open to the possibility. Anyway, my only objection to Jason & Alyssa together is that their voices don't sound good together. Maybe it's just because I know the age difference between them, but her voice (to me) sounds waaay too young to be paired with J.

Hmm... it looks like it's still uncertain whether Falling In will be released here in Europe Lifehouse Twitter says that they are looking into it. Do you think this means they may not release another song at all? Or that they are maybe releasing a different song here than in the US?

I think they are trying to figure out whether they want to release Falling In or another song, cause with the time they are spending here I'm assuming they will release something

Yes, that's what you would think right? They probably will release a song. But how strange would it be to release a different song here than in the US? Does that happen a lot? THat different songs are released in different parts of the world? I'm a complete music noob

It's not that uncommon to release a different single Stateside and in Europe.. many bands have done that.
