pretty much a continuation of this, the music version of the randomness topic. ----------------------- Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion This album is so good. It's different from Strawberry Jam and more like Panda Bear's solo stuff. So it's drum&bass/electronia-ish..but with more of a wall of sound. With repeated listens, you'll hear new stuff. "Summertime Clothes" and "Brothersport" win for best songs, but all of the tracks are worth listening to... Antony & The Johnsons - The Crying Light This album is so good. The guy's voice is a bit weird/terrible at first, but it grew on me thanks to V for Vendetta. This album is more of the same as their first album. lots of delicate/tender moments. Andrew Bird - Noble Beast This album is so good. Indiefolk like sufjan or beirut. Doesn't push the genre, but nothing to disagree with. Just good andrew bird music.

Well, this is going to be a lot more mainstream than the stuff above--but I feel like sharing my LOVE of Safetysuit right now with other Lifehouse fans. This is not just a fleeting infatuation, either. I'm not the kind of girl that falls hard for just ANY band. This one's a keeper--at least that's how I feel. Every song on their album is good. There is only one that I feel is a bit too commercial and predictable for me. Otherwise, their Annie or Life left to Go is reminiscent of Lifehouse's Simon . Their Apology or Something I Said strikes familiarity to the sentiments of Lifehouse's Whatever it Takes. The song, What If is my current favorite. You get the idea. But they do bring something a little different to the the table, too. They're not just a copy of another band. They are like a mixture of everything I love about Lifehouse, Keane, Switchfoot, the Killers, the Goos, etc. and worth a listen just until we are graced with the next Lifehouse album, of course! Okay, Safetysuit, where's my commission? It's in the mail, you say? Oops! You weren't supposed to read that! ;D

Safetysuit sounds promising. I'm adding it to my MySpace favorites - sounds like the kind of music I could come back to later and discover it's better than I thought it was. I recently fell in love with Mere. www.myspace.com/mere

this is going to be a lot more mainstream than the stuff above lol....the stuff i listed are the most mainstream indie bands you can get. has anyone heard of Brooke Waggoner? her music is like fairly tale pop..nice and bouncy, full of piano and strings. but just when I think I know how the song will end, she changes it up so it's like what? pretty awesome lady.

Oh, I just meant mainstream in that Safetysuit is a "signed" band--(Universal.) Also, they are on VH1 right now, so I think that's more in the mainstream than an indie band would typically be. But almost everyone was an indie band at one point, right? To be honest, I'm not that knowlegable about music terms and even had to look up the definition of indie to make sure I knew what you meant--lol! So, don't mind me! I like Brooke Wagonner. Mere could be good. Nothing grabbed me, though. I need to hear more.

I'll have to check out Safetysuit. Not all of this music is new(I'm not sure if you meant 2008 releases or not) but here are some of my suggestions(my favorite songs in parenthesis):
Fleet Foxes (He Doesn't Know Why & Ragged Wood) The Envy Corps (Story Problem is cool, but my fave is Rhinemaidens) The Hush Sound (they have two lead singers, one female, one male. I love her voice so much, you have to check out "Honey"! & Lighthouse...and Wine Red...okay basically I love all their songs) Tilly and The Wall (Let It Rain & I Always Knew. They use a tap dancer, very interesting...) Vedera (The Falling Kind & Back to The Middle) Rilo Kiley (Silver Lining & I Never) Newton Faulkner (Dream Catch Me & Gone In The Morning) Eisley (I cannot get enough, of Eisley! Combinations & Come Clean & Invasion)

I really do love Mere, it's kinda bite-sized music but it's very carefully composed and presented pretty da*n well.
I'm looking forward to several things in 2009 as there should be a new The Craze EP and Republic of Letters should be releasing their full-length debut, as should Satellite State.
Syd is working on a new EP and Rosemary's Sons 3rd album will be released by mid-february. I've heard most of the songs that will be on it, and it promises to be their break-through album in the Netherlands.. they had a hit single once but I don't think anyone really remembers that, so it'll be good to put them back on the map.
The band & I are making plans for a broader-scale promotion in the UK, Germany, Belgium, US & Australia (and hopefully Sweden) by mid-2009/late-2009 and I'm trying to pave some way for a couple of bands from the UK, US & Germany to play gigs in the NL & Belgium to get a foot on ground. Things are a little struggling, but there also are a few possible leads I have to chase down.
As for Inner Ear Media, things are looking up. I'm as busy as I've ever been. The first week of the new year should be all about updating. I have a couple interviews in the loop (among them The Cast Before The Break, Fools & Horses and 'a balladeer')
Also, I'm looking forward to new work by Steve Bertrand (formerly Avion) and J.R. Richards (formerly Dishwalla) and Go Van Gogh (formerly Greenwheel)

^^from what I heard of Duncan's demos, this is going to be his best record in awhile I thought I read somewhere that he performed at Angkor Wat, Cambodia recently - with the likes of Placebo! (some MTV event?) Nevertheless, this should be interesting. Switchfoot's *counts* seventh release should be a pretty exciting one. With them parting ways with Sony and Jon's recent solo career taking of. Would be interesting to see if any of his solo work would influence the new record. With possible track titles such as Blood & Soul, Selling the News, Above the Roar etc I'm definitely looking forward to this :] Idlewild's seventh album is also due for release sometime in the Summer this year.

la la la...
Haven't been keeping up with any new stuff, my friends got me into this mmorpg game. I know a few albums have leaked, but I'm just not in the mood to listen to new stuff.
But i did listen to safetysuit, reminds me more of radio switchfoot than lifehouse.
Franz Ferdinand, is pretty generic, except for 'no you girls.'
Handsome Furs, side project of Wolf Parade, kinda boring.
So did anyone on this board listen to Merriweather Post Pavilion? I bought my copy tuesday and there's not much of a booklet, but whatever. I was trying to get my best friend into it and he was like, "they suck." but he listens to mgmt..so it's like wtf. mgmt is overrated as hell.
My Moving Mountains CD came in the mail today. They left a note saying, "We just hope you don't re-sell/scalp on ebay" because i ordered 3. haha.

I probably sound lame, but I've never pre-ordered an album before, probably attributable to my current location and certain recording labels' policy of having shipped "Only in the US".
Does it come up to the feeling of picking up and purchasing an album from the record store?
Oh and speaking of album booklets, what would be your most used/favourite booklet in your CD collection?
