Hey y'all!! I'm back!! After 11 days of no power with the exception of generator power, here I sit! Wow, what a rough ride! We did not have that much damage done to our property. However, a tree did fall on our shed, and just missed my room! I am not thankful that it hit the shed, but I am so glad I don't have a tree in my bedroom! This hurricane was the worst one BR has ever seen! My aunt lost her house, so please, everyone keep the McLean family in your thoughts!! Thanks everyone!! Thanks to Breann for posting the updates!

Hey guys...we are doing ok. In Houston, we were west of the storm, so on the good side of it. There was violent wind and rain for hours, but we faired pretty well. We only lost electricity for one hour this morning -- so we were VERY lucky there in that most are without power in Houston. We lost a large tree limb and tons of leaves and small branches. We spent most of the day raking leaves and cleaning out the pool. The big concern right now is that we don't know what happened to our bay house. It''s on a little island near Galveston island and the freeway is closed two miles before our exit because of debris and docks and boats and furniture and god only knows what else washed up on the freeway when the tides were at their highest. You may have seen that on the news...seems to be a popular story.
To give you a clue, hubby and I went down there at noon yesterday (the police department said they would let us on the island -- but only for a few hours) after we were CERTAIN that the storm was not going to change course. Everything in our garage was certain to be gone due to tidal surges. We loaded two SUV's with everything of value from the garage (that we could fit in there) -- and I grabbed a few more things from the house upstairs. At that time the dock was already two to three feet under water, the tide was halfway up our lot towards the street, and 1 ft below the elevated slab that the garage sits on. Anyway...a while ago I just talked to one of our neighbors down there and they said that the water was as high as 7 feet in the garage of a friend of theirs.
No one is allowed on the island besides emergency personnel since I-45 is blocked 3 miles before the bridge to Galveston -- they are letting emergency personnel ONLY ride on the other side of the highway to get towards Galveston......anyway, our neighbor is a volunteer fireman on the island and he is staying near us in Houston. He called a moment ago and asked if we wanted to go with him and his wife in the morning to get on the island. I guess we'll know then.
Thank you guys for being so sweet and concerned. We are going to make it...just pray that none of the windows broke in the house and that it is still standing. I feel sure we lost the garage and will have to rebuild that -- I would be the happiest woman in the world if a) the house is still standing b) we didn't have any broken windows or water damage....it's a lot to ask for possibly considering this storm, but one can hope!

We decided not to go on the island this morning b/c of the chaos there. Our neighbors who have the proper credentials did go this afternoon and were able to look at our house. Luckily the Upstairs (where the house living quarters are) was fine -- no broken windows and only minor siding damage on the outside.
The downstairs is another story.....EVERYTHING is gone downstairs in the garage and that which was tied to the posts (swing and picnic tables).....except for the toilet bolted to the floor in the garage. That means the walls, the walk in door, the garage doors, all that we left on on Friday when we went to go get the last load of stuff, the refrigerator and the freezer. Just thank GOD the house seems ok. My neighbor will bring pictures in a while. There was a large boat in the canal that I was worried about that was a tied to the sides of the canal with stakes. I was worried that it would come lose and beat up all of the docks and pilings that hold up the houses......unfortunately, he staked it pretty well, without any slack for high tides and evidently it is sunk in the middle of the canal. If you've seen any of the pictures of Galveston and the highway filled with boats and debris....you'll understand!
Thank you guys for all of your concern...I really appreciate it!
