SHIT. There are 4 people, 6 dogs, and 2 cats heading to our apartment right now...I honestly don't know what the hell we're gonna do. I don't know if they can do hotels because we don't know how long they'll be here, if they'll be able to afford it, or if they'll be able to find a place to accommodate so many pets.
Karla what's the situation in Baton Rouge; do you guys know yet how likely it is you'll have to evacuate?

Man, I've been following this on the news... unbelievable that this is happening again and on the anniversary no less. It seems that they are doing alot better on getting people out this time though.. so that's at least a plus.
Karla - I'll keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers <3 I remember thinking of you when Katrina happened (you were MIA at the time for a couple of years from the board but you're the only LA-ian I know so I was worried about you!).
Jadeline - <3

Thank you so much in advance for all of your your thoughts and prayers! I will update y'all on the condition of the state when I get the chance, and the storm is all over.

Karla what's the situation in Baton Rouge; do you guys know yet how likely it is you'll have to evacuate? As of right now, 10:23 am, we're staying here in Baton Rouge to ride out the storm. As I have said before, this is probably the last time in a while I'll have a chance to update, as Gustav is to drench us in the next 24 hours. When I come back after the storm, I'll be sure to update y'all on conditions. I'm not sure when that will be, could be as late as next week. I know many of you are going to be able to see it on TV, so hopefully, if I'm not able to keep y'all updated, you'll be able to see if for yourselves, and you can report in this thread! Again, I'm very thankful for all of your thoughts and prayers!

Hey everyone. I can't believe all this is happening again...it's just horrible. I have been texting with Karla a lot today and she asked me to let you guys know what was happening right now. The power has been out pretty much all day, and who knows when it will be back on. She may not be able to get back online for as much as two weeks. She also wanted me to let everyone know that they ARE ALL OK, but that Baton Rouge has some pretty extensive damage. I'm sure they're going to be talking about that on the news. That was the last text she sent me, 20 or so minutes ago. I'll let you guys know if I hear anything else!

Why do people still live in these areas? Why don't they move out? It seems as if storms like this will become more common so I would really consider moving to a different state if I was living Louisiana right now.
I hope you guys will be fine. it seems like the storm has lost some of its initial power and isn't as bad as people were expecting.
PS: I heard on the radio earlier that some people in New Orleans were actually "disappointed" that the storm wasn't stronger. WTF?

Baton Rouge is what I've seen talked about most (since New Orleans was a dissapointment ). I can understand that feeling - they built it up so much and then made a huge deal and it turned into a category one - kind of a let down, ya know? (In a really sadistic sort of way ). I'm with Klein.. I can't see moving back there year after year when you're constantly having to rebuild. No one can afford that...
