I agree with nick to a certain extent.
The first time I heard Between the Raindrops I really didn't like the way Jason and Natasha sounded together. I liked them individually, just not meshed together. It didn't sound good to me. But I guess after a few listens I got used to the sound. But still, I think that the chorus sounds better without Natasha.
Commercially, it probably was a good idea to get Natasha involved. Honestly though, I would have expected the song to do better than it's doing right now...

I feel like I'm in the twilight zone right now...
I think she sounds terrible on this track. They sounded great doing this song as a band-only acoustic performance, and really sounded good on Leno too. Not to mention, I think Jason sings Natasha's part so much better. When I heard him do her part, that instantly became my favorite part of the song, and most memorable.
I feel like she's singing really outside her box, almost trying to imitate what a female version of Jason would sound like on the track. Her breathiness is so awkward. I'm not a fan of hers or anything, but some of my friends are - I've been subjected to listening to tons of her music before, and BTR is definitely not her style. I feel like she's a very strong vocalist that can belt something out, but BTR is just awkward for her all over the place.
That and I feel like this was more of a move to turn her career back around and find her new fans as opposed to finding new fans for LH.
I guess I just don't get it...
What happened to when the guys alluded to liking the idea of doing a duet with Colbie Caillat? I would rather have had a version with her instead. Or I wish that LH would have done a LH-only "in-studio acoustic" version of BTR as a bonus track or something...

"in-studio acoustic"!?!?!?! What are you, crazy? Where would ever get the idea that something could exist and might be made available to us fans. Oh...right....

I think we have to agree to disagree on Natasha's vocals on the track:p *I like the huskiness of her voice, like she almost whispers it..that makes the meaning so much more real to me..to me! * I love her voice, and I do not think this is out of her box so to speak, even if it were: that can also be a good thing. good to hear you like the part when Jason sings it..* I do too, but not necessarily more than when Natasha sings it. I doubt that she is doing this to turn her career around..I think she has quite of a stable career. but that's my opinion

Ok... I guess this is a case of agree to disagree. Thanks for explaining more. I truly hope you all find what you're looking for someday and it's awesome that you have some suggestions for their future. I know that comes from a good place Off topic, but something I definitely want to get off my chest... I really actually miss the positive community that I used to feel here in these forums, and I'm not sure if you all realize that people who feel differently than you don't really feel welcome here. Anyway, maybe that's not the purpose that you all see for the forum and in that case, I just misunderstood. I realize that people have a right to say whatever they want and disagree and mourn the loss of who they thought the band was and all that good stuff. It just used to be a little more balanced here in the past I think. No offense, but it just feels pretty toxic. And when I voiced that to other friends that used to be on the forum, they explained that was the very reason they don't come here anymore. I don't know what the solution is because a lot of you clearly are disappointed and should definitely be able to voice your opinions... so I guess it's just a catch 22 and just "Is What It Is"... I know that I will get blasted for saying this, but I don't want to be a person that shrinks out of and fades away from the forum without telling you all why. I think you guys want the truth... if that's the one thing I've learned you definitely want people to be able to be honest. I do care about you guys. It hurts my heart to say this stuff... Nevertheless, sometimes it's time to move on. But please always remember... "I wish the best of everything for you... hope you know that honestly I do..." <3 Peace! This makes me sad. Terrible that such a positive Lifehouse fan has left this forum. I agree with Christy that the criticisms are (very) negative sometimes. But each his/her own opinion…. The last albums are perhaps not as high quality as the first two Lifehouse albums, but the live performances are in my eyes just gotten better. And still makes Lifehouse some songs with beautiful lyrics. - Not everyone wants to see that - But there are also a lot of fans that are positive about the new material. And to Christy: Thanks for all your great input here And of course I hope to speak to you on facebook

Now, about Jude Cole. I get the feeling that he's trying to make up for things he couldn't accomplish in his own career by trying to accomplish them with Lifehouse. I think this is a really really bad idea. We have reached the point where one could argue that Jude Cole was more involved in the making of a Lifehouse album than Jason Wade (song writing wise, instrumentation wise etc.) and that is a dangerous place to be for any band. I would like to see him fade more into the background out of respect for the band's own skills and creativity. I don't want ColeHouse, I want Lifehouse. If this means they have to use a new producer on the next album, so be it. In fact I would welcome that simply for the sake of changing things up.

ok, what are you trying to say with this? *instead of perhaps implying something, you can say it:p* I do think their voices go well with each other

Do you mean Bryce? I agree with Joyce that their voices go well together. I really don't mind that LH is inviting people to sing with them on stage. It changes things up a bit which may be a good thing. About Jude Cole, a lot of people seem to be somewhat negative about his influence on the band. I find it hard to judge his influence on the band, so I guess I'll give him the benefit of the doubt

Escalibur, I know you are a long time fan. But for someone who is/was such a big fan of this band and this group of guys, you really have no idea who they are, do you? I guess if you're so disappointed and want something different, you should probably go find another band rather than sitting here bitching about them not conforming to your idea of who they are or should be.
Your comments about Jude are also completely off base. I've been where you are with other bands, but rather than be a toxic presence on their fan boards, I just read and keep my negativity to myself. Why go out of your way to bring down the other fans? No need to respond to me. I won't be back.

I agree that it's just an opinion..maybe a badly argumented opinion (sorry but I do feel that way: posting a video with a rolleyes smiley, then when I ask what you mean: Lifehouse will soon have another singer' I know what you mean, but instead of thinking about what you mean, this just makes me roll my eyes) but if you think that Jude Cole is taking too big of a role in the band, you are of course entitled to that thought, even though I might not completely agree.

I agree that everyone should be able to express his/her opinion, whether it be positive or negative. However, I do hope that people can try to phrase their opinions in such a way that it is not too offensive for others. Granted, the line between "ok" and "too offensive" is blurry. But I think that most of the time we are on the good side of the line. This particular case with the rolleyes smiley may be on the blurry line. But in another thread escalibur mentioned that he wanted the album to fail. That sounds harsh and to me illustrates ill will towards the band. I would consider that offensive. Had it been phrased a bit differently, I might not have thought so. The post could have said something along the lines of: "I would like the band to change direction. If it takes the album to fail in order for them to change the direction they are going in, then I would like the album to fail". This way, change of direction seems to be the thing you're after, as opposed to the band failing being the prime objective of your post.
It's not my intention to lay down strict rules for how people should or should not act. Ultimately, it's all up to you what you do. But it's a shame if people turn away from this board because a few people phrase their opinions more harshly than others.

Because I still hope that it fails. That's the only hope for some change many of us are looking for. I get that it's maybe harsh to some but I actually agree that if this album failed there might be a slim chance for a change in direction that would appeal more to the lovers of classic LH. I see nothing wrong with that train of thought. People just need to stop getting all butthurt, like that one person who came on here just to bash someone's opinion and then childishly leave saying "I won't be back", not even giving anyone a chance to respond or to engage in a conversation. What was the point of that?

To be honest, I'm a little tired of having a discussion about how people are phrasing themselves. I'd rather discuss the opinions of the new album, the music, the band, the direction. I don't really see the point in constantly pointing fingers to people on how they express themselves.
Yes, sometimes things that are said are a bit blunt or may be considered offensive, but I don't think any disrespect is meant. For those of you who do mean disrespect, I hope you reconsider that, because that's not the purpose of this forum, but so far I haven't seen signs of disrespect, not on purpose at least. Whether others perceive it that way, I can't do anything about. It's sad, but people see/hear/read/interpret things differently, just the way it is.
And I agree with Daniel, just checking in to say "you are doing the wrong thing but don't respond, I'm not coming back" is as pointless as telling a cow it's sunday.
So can we please just be okay with people expressing themselves. Not all of us speak and write English well enough to be very eloquent. That should be kept in mind as well. But again, I really don't want to go into this discussion about who said what anymore (even though I'm doing that right now) because, really, what's the point? We all care, otherwise we wouldn't be here and post about it, so why don't we go back to discussing the music, the band, the album, etc. instead of pointing fingers. Because that, above all else, is driving people away, not the opinions people might have.
