I understand the idea behind the lyrics as it is typical for our times that many people talk but don't really communicate with each other and it's an interesting theme for a song. But now I find myself skipping that one as it doesn't have the power it should have with such a message. I remember Jason talking about that subject (that people , media, politicians, they all talk a lot, but in fact different things in life really matter) during "Nerve damage" live performances and to me it had a much bigger impact then.

I hate to speak ill of one of my favorite bands and Im going to reserve FULL judgement for the record next week... but with the first 2 songs (this and BTR) Im not overly impressed. It just seems like with every album Im losing more and more interest in them. I really loved 2007's "Who We Are", but hearing "Halfway Gone" before S&M came out I knew something was changing. They are continuing down that same pathway with these 2 new songs. Hell, just the drum beat in the beginning of this song sells you on what kind of song its going to be before the chorus hits. Its too predicable and the layered vocals and effects are going overboard. Just like the above said, the personal touch and deeper meaning to the music is gone. When I go back and hear a song like "Trying" or "Somewhere In Between", songs that touch me emotionally and then I listen to this ... Im just dumbfounded Jason did both. But to each their own. This is just my opinion and if you guys dig it thats awesome. I completly agree with you Im feeling the same way, my total devotion started to cool down with LH but when WWA came out I got that great feeling again and knew they were on the right track. But with the first single from SAM I really didnt like the direction and this new album is even more out of course. Nobody listen has imo a really bad chorus with absolutely no hook what so ever and the lyrics are just so bad being a LH song. If Jas didn't write this lyric (I have a hard time seeing him writing something this bad even if he tried) Jude Cole should never touch and be involved in making a LH song again.

This is just my opinion and if you guys dig it thats awesome. I personally think Jason is pretty content in life at the moment and this in turn has affected his songwriting. He's said numerous times before that he'll look to other people for inspiration if there's nothing going on in his life at the time of writing . I think the only thing at this point in his life that would really inspire him as a lyricist is having kids. In regards to Trying and Somewhere in Between, those tracks are deeply personal to him. He wrote them when he was going through a difficult period in his life, a time of change and adjustment and I just don't think he's had anything like that in his life for years now, i.e. he's grown up. He said in an interview a few years back that he's made peace with what happened with his dad (as well as other things) and everyone knows that that was a subject that really inspired a lot of the earlier material. It's interesting to note that Jason has co-written a lot more on the last three albums and this has probably affected his writing as well. It's quite shocking to see him going from writing either all or nearly all of the material on the earlier albums to sharing the majority of the songs with others on later albums. Saying that, there are still some remnants of old Jason Wade in a few songs on Almeria, Aftermath being the prime example. That song is classic Lifehouse in my eyes. Then there are tracks like Learn You Inside Out, From Where You Are and Broken which are incredibly moving, personal and touching.

I agree with both of you. Nobody listen just sounds like any pop song on the radio. I wonder where the great lyrics went I think the chorus is pointless - it's really uninteresting, but the lyrics aren't that bad - if they were applied differently, I think they could sound great, it's just the overall sound of the song that isn't so good. I really don't like the chorus, especially the backing singing. Too many oohs and ahhs. They don't need that!
