I always wanted to make this thread, but was too shy. and i get my feelings hurt when i make a topic and noone replies. but I love instrumental music more than the average girl. I learned to love music because of lyrics. But I didn't have a strong sense of appreciation for the other members of the band until I listen to Instrumental bands. Because in an instrumental band, there's no real 'leader.' so I pay attention to every detail. It's like an ocean of cold air coming from the prettiest girl on earth pushing me down on the safest emotional roller coaster. horrible analogy? Do you ever listen to a song and the words are kind of muddy, so you kinda fill in the gaps yourself, but then you look up the lyrics and it's not as good as what you had hope? well that's why i love instrumental music. I could listen to it one day and it'll be a happy song, then Liz will tell me she likes that song too and I'll hate that song for weeks. so for the few that actually do listen to instrumental music, what bands/artist do you listen to? Explosions in the Sky?Godspeed You! Black Emperor? Do Make Say Think? E.S. Posthumus? Mogwai? The Album Leaf? This Will Destroy You?Yndi Halda? Ratatat? Joy Wants Eternity? Caspian? Childs? Balmorhea? Rachel's? Giants? Hammock?Yiruma? The Six Parts Seven? For the people who aren't familiar with Post-Rock, download this song and play it while you do whatever it was that you were doing... www.mediafire.com/?3pzq3mxgtay...and you must have felt something.

But I guess a lot of instrumental music I listen to is not Post-Rock it's fine. name it. ambient music fits here too. and i suppose stuff like Daft Punk, Röyksopp and Air belong here too. and to Francisco. Can I recommend you Ef. They are 70% instrumental, but the vocals in the song are very soft, it doesn't get in the way of anything. www.myspace.com/efwww.last.fm/music/Ef

I believe my first exposure to instrumental songs wouldn't be your typical post-rock song. Rather, piano, violin and cello concertos under the music of Mozart, Bach, Beethoven etc. Does that count?

sure lizzy.
I can only get into the 'main' classical songs, you know, the ones that we always hear in movies but just don't know the names of. but for the most part, i find the rest to be boring as hell.
but if classical music is more of your liking. maybe you'll like the style of Max Richter (check out The Blue Notebooks) or the super minimalistic Arvo Pärt (He barely plays a note, but it's interesting). Béla Fleck (cello) and Edgar Meyer (Bass) are two people worth noting. They sometimes cover classical songs, but I like their originals better. They both have a 'Bluegrass' flavor, but it's cool.
