This is awesome! Now 21 of the 50 states are smoke free, which means restaurants are smoke free, and sometimes it includes bars and private clubs.
It's great to see people working so hard to protect others.

I feel kinda biased on the whole cigarrets thing, I'm not a big smoker, tho I do smoke every now and then my small ciagrs (the last 2 or 3 weeks ago) so for me it's no problem not to smoke and it's fine for me if I can't smoke somewhere. But I grew up with a family of smokers and I know how they feel and this is not a step for them to quit smoking, it's only a reason not to go somewhere if they can't smoke somwhere It's sad but they are like they are and I can't change it. But at least it's good for all the people that don't smoke and feel bothered by it.

I think the point is more for the non-smokers to be able to go somewhere and not worry about smoke than to make people quit smoking, cause the only way for that is to make tobacco so expensive only millionaires can buy it

I definitely think it's a step in the right direction... if you want to smoke, fine. But I don't - and I don't want to inhale your second hand smoke either... I find it quite rude. I live with two chain smokers and my house is like a freakin' bar.. it's ridiculous. I wake up with my nose and throat burning all the time. That's irrelevant to the topic but still... I think people shouldn't smoke in restaurants because it's not really fair to force the other people around you to inhale that shit just because you're addicted.

NJ became smoke free about a year ago and I love it! I have asthma so smoke in restaurants and bars always irritated me, to the point where I couldn't even go out to some places because it was so bad my lungs couldn't handle it. Plus I just think it's a gross habit. Smoke free is definitely a good thing!

I don't think everything should be smoke free. But I don't think smoking sections and everything should be next to each other or not separated at all. I worked at a bowling alley for 2 years and we had these machines called smoke eaters. The smoke eaters are right above everyone's heads and all of the smoke is pulled up and through them so that smoke doesn't get beyond three feet away from the person smoking. It made it easy to work there because it wasn't smoky even though a lot of people were smoking. If more places invested in these then I'm sure more people, especially non-smokers would be happy.

Last I had heard the gov hasn't signed this yet, but I know he will. I know it is supposed to come into effect January. Also, President Jones and Speaker Madigan are both in the works to put a $.75 take hike on all tobacco products in this overtime session. I think it will be an extra $300 into the general fund which could go for statewide insurance.

I smoke so I'm a little biased I guess. I don't think everything should be smoke free. But I don't think smoking sections and everything should be next to each other or not separated at all. I worked at a bowling alley for 2 years and we had these machines called smoke eaters. They work miracles. The smoke eaters Are right above everyone's heads and all of the smoke is pulled up and through them so that smoke doesn't get beyond three feet away from the person smoking. It made it easy to work there because it wasn't smoky even though a lot of people were smoking. If more places invested in these then I'm sure more people, especially non-smokers would be happy. smoke eaters don't work nearly as much as you think. it's been proven in numerous studies. the smell and smoke still linger. the only way to protect people, especially people with asthma and other respiratory infections is to go smoke free completely. sorry if i sound harsh. i'm very passionate about lung health, especially protecting people from tobacco and it's deadly affects. i teach tobacco prevention programs in schools and i also teach classes to help adults quit smoking.

I'm thrilled with this news. No more going out to dinner with my parents and they insist we sit in the smoking section so my stepdad can chain-smoke all through dinner!

I'm all for this and the thing is, being able to smoke somewhere is definitely a privilege. I'm the ONLY person over the age of 15 in my family who doesn't smoke, and none of them have any problem with not being able to smoke in restaurants and such. I mean, how many places are there that you go that you spend such a significant amount of time in that you just absolutely couldn't last that long without a cigarette?
I'm all for rights and such, but smoking in public isn't a right when it infringes on my right to breathe healthy air

I mean, how many places are there that you go that you spend such a significant amount of time in that you just absolutely couldn't last that long without a cigarette? You'd be surprised! My grandpa won't go to any place he has to stay in 30 mins or longer because he MUST have a cigarette every 4 seconds. If he went to a restaurant and he couldn't smoke - he'd be pissed but i'd be thrilled Why the hell do I wanna choke on smoke while i'm trying to eat, it's annoying.

See, that's not even addiction though, that's beyond a lack of self control. He can go outside and smoke (as long as it's something like 100 feet from the building...I think..)

I also think this is good news. It's also starting to happen here in Mexico, alot of restaurants are switching over to no smoking inside. I don't smoke and don't really understand the appeal of it, but I can respect their choice if they can respect mine. I think overall it's a good thing, especially for people with athsma problems and such and children in public places.
