About Komox Kids

Komox Kids are a Canadian-rooted alternative indie-pop band based out of Los Angeles California. Formed in the spring of 2012, the project was birthed as a result of songs written by Bryce Soderberg during his still current days as long time bassist and backing vocalist of the Multi-Platinum rock group Lifehouse. "Initially this was just a passion project, a side-band for me while the other guys in Lifehouse pursued theirs." says Soderberg. "But after a few shows and getting such a positive feedback, I don't want to stop!" Having developed a sound with production from NIN keyboardist Allesandro Cortini and Abandoned Pools frontman Tommy Walter, you can expect rock songs of heartache, happiness, in an LA lived adolecence, with synth infused pop from the past and alternative present. Having had played many shows, writing and recording demos around Los Angeles for two years under the name 2ndwheel, they rebranded with the name Komox Kids in 2014. "it was a necessary change as far as the music was concerned" says Soderberg. "it felt right to get back to the roots of where i'm from and put a positive connotation to the name" One of his favorite places to visit as a child was the Comox Valley on Vancouver island, BC.
With iconic shoegazer sounds from former ModwheelMood member Pelle Hillstrom, and gritty guitar and synth work from the Hard rock influenced "viking" Neal Tiemann (Hell or Highwater), Sweden's own Kris Perrson's indie-pop drum style was the last missing piece. "I feel like as a unit we are completely on the same page stylistically." says Perrson. "It is a great time in the industry for music, and I feel like what we are about to is going to turn some heads." The band is well on its way to record their debut album, and over the next year, perform and create a record at the bar line they feel the band deserves. "We have about 40 songs in the tank, and can't wait to whittle them down to a record" says Soderberg. "Its going to be an amazing experience. It's all about enjoying the process. That's what this is all about!"

Update from Bryce about his Komox album and success of the pledgemusic campaign :

HEY FRIENDS! I know I've been blabbing a ton about my project "KOMOX" and a lot of you are wondering what the band entails and what it's all about. I have had a dream to put out a solo record for the last 8 years, and always knew It would have to be a long term goal, so over time it felt right to slowly chip away at songwriting and singing as best as possible. We had always manifested that someday we would have the means to put something out that we are truly proud of and through many years of trials and tribulations, I finally think that time has come. Over the last two and a half years since the band formed, we have gone through names, musical directions, member changes, good gigs, bad gigs, times of immense joy, times of immense frustration, but through it all, we have kept and eye on the prize and finally, in my gut, I feel that the biggest hurdles in the initial stages of band development have been overcome, and we are about to have an insane record in our hands. We have songs and a sound that has taken form and the "baby" that is this project is ready to be born. We have taken meeting with major labels and managers and have received offers, but have decided to keep the integrity of the project close to heart by releasing our album on our own in December OUR way. We have gotten a ton of advice and guidance from friends, colleagues and family, and decided that a pledge music campaign was a perfect way to raise the budget to record, while at the same time harnessing a fan base that gets to be a part of something new together. We are almost at 75% of the way through our goal! We have recorded all of the songs (10 of our favs out of 40 demos) and they will be ready to mix wednesday. We have chosen Mark Needham to mix our record (imagine dragons, the killers) If you could look at our pledge campaign,its not a donation, but it is cool way to support by buying our album first! We have some snippets up and will be posting some acoustic performances soon as well. Thanks to everyone who has supported and believed in me from the beginning on this! It's a dream come true. Bryce posted an update on his Komox Pledge Campaign page and he talked a bit about his nearest future with Lifehouse :

Hello Friends and Family

A lot is happening right now! The cat is finally out of the bag as far as Lifehouse goes, with the release of our new bleed track “Flight” along with a lyric video, and the announcement of our new album “SEVEN” set to release in the spring of next year. It marks the end of our 2 year hiatus, and I can promise the new record will really be something special for Lifehouse fans, old school and new school. There is a long story on how this record came to fruition, a big piece of it involving what would have been Jason’s solo project. Overall, It’s been an amazing continued 10 year journey, I am very happy the band is back. There is a lot of cool stuff coming up.

That being said, For the last two years, I have been developing, writing for and finishing the “debut record” for my KOMOX passion project. I had basically put some long term time aside to really give the project a shot since I had assumed that LH was taking a longer break. I have been putting a lot of thought as to the future of KOMOX with the welcomed audible. I have put my heart and soul into this and I finally feel like we have created something with a really great sound that I am finally proud to share, and so It is fair to do what is right for the project so at some point we can be heard with the proper bullet in our chamber. We have successfully reached our goal on pledgemusic.com/komox which we are extremely grateful for, and we are putting the finishing touches on the songs.

We have decided that considering all that is coming up with LH, to release two separate 5-6 song EP’s with KOMOX. Since we wont have time to promote or tour on a record right now, it seemed fitting that we space out the songs and “soft release” KOMOX so that when the dust has settled, we can take the time to do more with it properly, with even more support.
We couldn’t have done this without the pledgers, so we want to make this special for them by releasing the EP’s ONLY to those on pledgemusic.com/komox. If you would like copies or digital downloads, we will be leaving the pledge campaign up until Christmas Day, where you can order the EP’s there. We have plans to launch a couple of videos and we should play more shows with KOMOX next year, but I don’t want the two project to interfere with each other.
The release of the first EP (and the rarities) will have to be pushed back to Dec. 25 since we have had a few schedule conflicts with both projects,(gigs, recording, shoots, promo) I’m sorry about this, but In the meantime we will be fulfilling all of the pledges and you should have everything in your mailboxes before Santa puts anything under your trees. I promise it will be worth it.
KOMOX will still be active, but for now there will be a focus on supporting the LH record. Pelle, the guitar player from KOMOX, is now performing with Lifehouse as well!

KOMOX has one show on Dec. 4 at lucky strike in Hollywood, where we will be playing songs from the EP’s and hanging with our VIP pledgers, as well as other packages on there we look forward to fulfilling! I look forward to the future of both projects with you all and thank you so so much for all of the continued support. Can’t wait for you to hear everything!
