So when i was younger, it would be a pet peeve of mine when I'll read, "it's my favorite, but not their best" and vice versa. Like isn't it kind of weird? You'll admit a song is the band's best song, but you'll easily pick something else if given the choice. What does that say about someone's personal taste? They are freely choosing something less superior? The 'best' and 'favorite' should be the same. It just seems logical lah. Answer the question based on music. ---------------

For me they are different. My favorite is based on emotional connection or the association I feel with the song (like for example with a phase or event in my life), it's the songs I have the strongest link with.
But I can easily say that a band has a better song.
For example, my favorite Dutch band, Rosemary's Sons.. My favorite song is "Shooting Star" off their demo album, but I know that it's not their best song musically. Songs like Cheyenne, Honesty At The Door, Fall From Grace, The Others, Mary-Ann & Thin Line are definitely better songs musically, and while I love all of the songs, my favorite is still Shooting Star as the first time I heard it, it just made so many things fall into place for me.
For Lifehouse, in my opinion, the best song and my favorite song is the same, as I think Simon is both their best song musically and also my favorite.
Another good example is The Beatles. My favorite song is Here Comes The Sun, but I don't think it's their best song, I think their best song might be one of the following (A Day In The Life, Strawberry Fields Forever, We Can Work It Out, Tomorrow Never Knows)

10 votes. awesome!
as i got older, yeah, i too started to noticed that it was two separate things. But currently, as I'm trying to make a decade list, and i keep having these inner conflicts that make me go, "shouldn't an attachment to an album be a good enough factor for it to be 'the best.'" Like musically, that's a big factor. Perhaps "wide appeal" and "influence" might be another. But not all albums have the ability to cut you skin deep....so I've been trying to explain myself for over a week, but this is the best i could come up with....but you know....those type of albums are special.
LOL@ me. simply solution , who cares.
