As some of you might've heard, Cayte & I were invited for the CD Release party of Rosemary's Sons' third official (which means it's actually their 4th) album, called Home Sweet Home.
The band put on a show with a couple of special guests and played 14 songs, most of which were from the new album. And even though I had already heard the new songs in previous try-outs and the few shows they were able to play while waiting for the album to be released, it still sounded pretty new to me. The arrangements were stronger and the live deliverance is getting better and better. While there were a couple of little things that you could say about it, the show was energetic and enthusiastic and it was a whole lot of fun. It was also great to see that the venue was nearly sold out.
The new CD has 10 songs and most of them have a rootsy/americana undertone to it, but they're all pretty catchy pop/folk-rock songs with some rock & roll basis underneath. The best songs are probably How About It, Best Is Yet To Come, Mary-Ann, Thin Line & Devil in his Pocket.
From the reviews that are out, most are saying that the band played it pretty safe with this album and the arrangements and I can see how they say that, but there's a good reason. They did really well with their official debut in 2002 and then basically everyone they depended on left them (label, some management issues, radio stations that were playing them pretty much stopped playing them, etc. etc.) and they fell into a black hole. Their 2nd album did okay, but didn't get them back in the spotlight and now with this 3rd album they are pretty much making a fresh start. And the songs are strong, come across really well and during a live show the band shows there's plenty of excitement in the songs for everyone to enjoy.
During the end of the release show, the band thanked a bunch of people who helped with the record and they also thanked the ladies who do their Dutch fansite and they thanked me for running their myspace. That was cool. It also gave me new energy to do a full update on the myspace and get it ready to match the new album.
I know that the album art could've been much better, but ah well, in the end it's about the music, and the music is great (or well, i think so at least ).. You can listen to most of the new songs on myspace as well as a couple oldies. So if you have some time, I'd love for you to check out my favorite Dutch band and if you like the songs, please don't hesitate to befriend them.
Unfortunately the new album isn't on iTunes yet, and the single, "how about it" is only on iTunes Benelux so far, but I think that's just a matter of time. I'm trying to find out how long it might take before it'll be released to iTunes international and maybe Amazon/CDbaby or something, but I don't know if I can find out soon or not. Gonna ask them on saturday though.
