Okay, I'm going old school, Stanley Climbfall, on this one. Hope you don't mind. I've always wondered what other people thought this song was about. Here are the lyrics:
My Precious
can't hold you down can't hurry you up there's nothing I can do a slave to your hands
climb up above your precious time don't worry your time don't hurry your mind
where did you go where did you hide all I can do is watch you pass by
climb up above your precious time don't worry your time don't hurry your mind
every time I try to take it back I know I don't wanna live like that I'll wait for tomorrow too tired to go the other way too late to wait another day I'm going on
climb up above your precious time don't worry your time don't hurry your mind
climb up above your precious time don't worry your time don't hurry your mind

First of all, this post is rated PG-13--so only read on if you have parental consent. Okay, I'll go first with my cooky interpretation of the song. I'm going to state the obvious and say this song, on the surface, is about time and not wanting to fight against it, but instead go with the flow and have patience, etc. But here's what I really thought about the song by just listening to the vibe before carefully reading the lyrics: I think it's one of the most sexual sounding Lifehouse song I've ever heard. The guitar sounds like it's building up to an orgasm all the way through and some of it gives me the vibe of John Mayer's "Your Body's a Wonderland." And then if you're being a little less literal and a little more "mind in the gutter" like me, you can definitely interpret the lyrics as having that meaning to them. Like being a "slave to your hands," etc. Has anyone else ever had that same vibe from the song or am I WAY off base here?

wow skrappy....reading that plus seeing jason's face in your siggy. that was hot.
anyways, i thought it was about time as well...but its one of my least favorite song as it's so draggy-dreamy.

Interesting. I don't even hear a climax in this song. It just feels like life in slow motion.

in contrast to most...this is probably one of their best songs.
this song to me is about loss of innocence and trying to remain your age and not grow up to fast. i think a lot of young teens and younger kids these days are growing up way too fast...having sex, doing drugs, etc way before they should be worrying about that. this song always sounds like, "don't rush yourself" to me. i love it. i think definitely one of their best songs musically as well as lyrically. especially for the fact that we can't tell for sure what this song is about, and i think that makes it fascinating.

I totally did not go to the sex dept. with this song but I have always loved it. Just because time is such a commodity these days. Also a dear friend of mine stopped posting for no reason and this song seemed to connect with having no control and no reason for lack of communication. I know now but back then it was a worry. I hope its not sex, I was calling my kids my precious on their bdays on my profile at the official site. Yuck.

I used to not like this song.... but it's grown on me. Life in slowmotion sums it up pretty well... and what Maureen said.

i used to not like this song. and i still dont. i just. i just dont see why someone even would. and i blame maureen because the second she decides she has a favorite song, it somehow ends up on my bad list. or hey, maybe its the other way around! either way... i simply cannot get into this one. the sexual-ness of it though, i can see, though i would never have thought of that myself.

So...it sounds like if they did this song live, most of you would be yawning and sleeping whereas I'd probably have to have a cigarette after? (And I don't even smoke.) I could see how this could be a non-favorite Lifehouse song, but I don't see how you could just not like it at all. I read that it was written really quickly in the studio--here's what I dug up in an old MTV interview www.mtv.com/news/articles/1454563/05282002/lifehouse.jhtml -- One of those tracks, "My Precious," turned out to be Wade's favorite. "We were in the middle of tracking another song and I went in the other room and picked up a guitar and, in the spur of the moment, was inspired to write a song," Wade explained. Once finished, he invited guitarist Sergio Andrade and drummer Rick Woolstenhulme into the room to play it for them and they picked up their instruments and played along. Aniello hit "record," and that version of Lifehouse playing the song for the first time made the new album. "I'm really proud of that one," Wade added. I thought that was interesting. Maybe it's not the song I'm thinking it is. Oh well--I'll always have my own naughty interpretation!!

OK I love coming to this forum because I am always blown away, probably not the right wording, by all the different way people look at Lifehouse songs. And their reasons for it. Thanks. Skrappy you kill me. I'll need a cig. and I don't smoke. LOL And you come up with crazy literary names for me. Luv ya.

I've never really thought about it but now that you've said that I think life in slow motion fits.

I wanted to post about this song, but for some reason when I log on at home, I'm there in the list as logged on, but I can't post. I had this trouble before, but didn't write down the solution. Anyway....
This is one of my favorite songs on my favorite Lifehouse album. I've always thought it was about the loss of a friend. Sometimes a person who is in your core group of friends will make new friends in a more popular group (rise up above). I wasn't in the poplular group in school, I was in the smart group. We lost people to the popular group and it was always hard when they didn't want to talk to you or spend time with you any more. Eventually you stop trying (I'm going on). I really, really hated high school.
