Gotta be Somebody is ok song for me. The lyrics are quite good but the music is overproduced for the radio. Somehow it feels like song includes too many tracks/layers and it's full of everything like 3 guitars, keyboard etc... but this is just my opinion.
I hope that upcoming record is much 'stronger' than it's first single.

i agree about it sounding over-produced. i liked the first half of the song, but i think it goes on for too long. i hope the record is better as well.

I like the lyrics, I guess, and I really don't mind the overproduction. I agree that its overproduced, but it is radio-friendly...

I'm not really getting into it. But that's not that strange actually.. I always only have a few songs on the album that I like with Nickelback.. to listen to a full CD feels like picking one song and putting it on repeat for an hour.. After awhile all Nickelback songs sound the same to me.

Yeah Nickelback is like 3 Doors Down all that radio songs/singes are almost always one of the most boring songs on the record but all these non-radio songs are totally cool (at least for me).
Noveber 7th I'm gonna see 3DD live in Helsinki. (8 years I had to wait for one of my many favourite bands)

Goo Goo Dolls are the same.. ever since A Boy Named Goo/Dizzy Up The Girl, everything they write sounds the same... apart from some of Robby's songs

I love this song! My sister is a nickelback superfan, so I've heard it about 6,482,759,837 times now. I still like it alot though. it's definitely not what I was expecting from them though. their singles seem to be drifting more into the pop direction, which I don't really mind. I'm looking forward to the cd though!

is the the song about not wanting to be alone and everyone needs someone and blah blah blah basically? if so, you guys really like it? it makes me sad. the lyrics are horrendous and so basic and his rhyming schemes and oh my... i wish he stopped writting. it also sounds way over produced to me and repetitive and my friend and i listened to it on the radio just to see how it is, (cause the dj mentioned the new nickleback song was coming up) and we couldnt believe how he could take such a universal topic, and still make such a crappy song. eh....

I'm glad no one on this board insults my taste in music. I wouldn't know how to defend myself. I'm so weak.
but yeah, i agree with allie and koen. I actually don't mind if a band sounds the same as long as it's the good kind (ex gaslight anthem has two type of songs), but it's the lyrics that bug me for nickelback. Clearly it's written for mainstream radio and I rather have personal lyrics that i can't relate to than have open lyrics that apply to anybody. It feels more real if the person knows what he's talking about. Well maybe chad is writing from the heart, but he's old and i dont believe it coming from him anymore. It's like Gavin DeGraw singing about highschool love. bad example. So that's why i'm not a fan. but then... i feel selfish when i have these thoughts cuz to millions of people, nickleback is 'their band' that connects to them, understands them. And i don't know, if it helps them get through this tough world, then whatever i guess.

But here is one quite good example of Nickelback's lyrics from the song 'Too Bad' which is about Chad's father I think. .....You left without saying goodbye Although I'm sure you tried You call the house from time to time To make sure we're alive But you weren't there Right when I needed you the most And now I dream about it And how it's so bad, it's so bad.....For me these are not so bad lyrics as they could be.

^I love that song. IMO it's one of their best. I hope there's some songs sorta like that on the new album. 'If Today Was Your Last Day' sounds interesting...and depressing...the elements of a great song

^^i understand that.. but then they also have lyrics like this: So I can eat my meals for free (I'll have the quesadilla)and im sorry.. HOW is that good lyrics? especially when you hear it.. how there is the deep voice in the background saying "ill have the quesadilla".....i dunno. its probably just all their singles.. but if i dislike the singles that much im not going to want to go out to buy the album.

I liked a couple of Nickelback's songs. Don't have any of their albums, not sure why...I'm not really getting into this new song at all. I don't know. I'm not feeling it. Maybe it's overproduced, maybe it's the lyrics. I still like If Everyone Cared and Too Bad.
