Sorry to put this up here, but its the only place I can vent when my job gets retarded. I got pulled into the office today because I wasn't sitting like a good girl in my apartment to check people out cause its the end of the year...I HAD A FINAL. I blocked TWO HOURS out of my entire day today, I was up till 3am finishing my proposal which is 50% of my grade in Advanced Research, I was up at 8am checking people out of their rooms cause its my job, but then two people are running nearly THREE HOURS LATE and I the office-call because they finally were ready in the two hours that I had blocked off. this is my fault how?? 1- be ready when you say you're going to be. Early is nice, late sucks. 2- Don't sign up for the time right before a blocked off time unless you plan on being on time. Its blocked off for a REASON, meaning I won't BE HERE. 3- my boss can sit and spin. (dirty reference, sorry)
RAs are people too! and students on top of that! we have finals, and lord FORBID we shower....

yeah, we don't shower, eat, sleep, go to class, or have lives. our soul purpose in life is to make sure our residents are completely comfortable, which includes tucking them in at night, neck massages, bubble baths, and occasionally maid services.
SO glad my two-year tenure as an RA is 36 hours from being done!!

Oh geez, I remember those days *shudders* The residents seem to think that you're to be there for their every whim whenever it's convenient for THEM. I used to get sooooo annoyed when my "office hours" would end and I'd be on my way out somewhere and then here comes a resident needing something that requires a great deal of attention. I can totally relate.
klein, at my school, we got free room and board for the year...the job paid very poorly (only like a $70 stipend/month) but at that time I didn't need money for anything as I had no bills, so the $8000 credit for free room and board was definitely compensation enough. Looking back, I have no clue how I lived on $70/month.

room and board, plus various other 'perks' that the school doesn't exactly know about My experience with being an RA last year was amazing, so I had no hesitation about re-applying. This year, however, has been torture for our whole staff. FOUR people quit at semester, which is a lot when you only have 16 to start with. Our bosses micromanaged, bitched, complained and actually gave us a lecture on how WE made them "lose their passion for ResLife"......puke.

The end of the semester is stressful enough without all the garbage going on.

ok, so I mentioned perks? I double checked all my apartments tonight to make checkouts with my boss tomorrow easier, which means I acquired all the things people left behind...like a dishrack, salt and pepper shakers, an internet cord, a drawing board, a dehumidifier, soda, and a bunch of other little stuff, and our director bought us lunch and dinner because the caf in closed. love it!!!
