You might just be reading a post from someone beyond the grave, because my body's so dead after last night's show!
The show at the Darien Lake Performing Arts centre was amazing. Of course, I was really only there for Lifehouse. I bought the Who We Are t-shirt when I got there. Overpriced but I just had to have it . The other little bits of Lifehouse merch was rather boring or a bit unusual.... two had one of the circus backdrops printed on it (the one with the leg and the one with the man opening his chest), and another one was a blue girl's top with the white circle that said "Alive". Interesting, but didn't showcase Lifehouse at all. But the Who We Are shirt was pretty nice .
Lifehouse didn't take too long to come out after the opener before them, and they were amazing!! It was always a dream of mine to see them in an outdoor venue. I know they were at the top of their game, Jason's vocals were bang-on! Here's what they peformed to the best of my memory (the order is probably incorrect around the middle):
Spin
Hanging by a Moment
Who We Are (custom outro)
Whatever it Takes
The Joke
Beast of Burden
(Can I ask what the song "Beast of Burden" is all about? Is this a new b-side or a cover song? It was beautiful. I at first was disappointed to hear a song I wasn't familiar with when I knew so few songs would be played, but the performance was wonderful, very sincere.)
First Time
You & Me
Broken (amazing outro)
So again another set of 8... Each performed with the same authenticity and passion that these guys are loved for. The Broken live version was enough to make my knees buckle. It was absolutely amazing. My buddy and I were already huge fans of that song, but to hear it lived and performed in the exact way it was... unbelievable! Jason was non-stop with the energy and the emotion. The whole song was slowed down for the first few minutes, similar to the pacing of "Everything". Then came the custom interlude and the outro... so amazing. There was no better way to end their show.
The Goos fans, coming from the GGD hometown of Buffalo, NY, were receptive to Lifehouse but not particularly energetic. They finally started showing their appreciation when the boys played "You & Me", I dare say they were singing along.
Jason didn't get much time to speak to the crowd, though he did introduce some songs and at one point, he did tell people "feel free to stand up and dance if you want". I felt a little hurt by that, the guys shouldn't have to ask the crowd to show some appreciation. These fans totally took for granted the wonderful opener they had been given. I made sure not to hold back any Lifehouse love, we had a whole auditorium to make up for at times.
My buddy and I were dancing like good old fashioned crazy Lifehouse people . The whole crowd was sitting (and this was a HUGE crowd) and we were jumping up and down and waving to all the songs. Jason and Bryce shot us a few glances a few times (we were in a pretty decent section), lol. We definitely wanted them to know that even in the GGD hometown, there was still people there to see LIFEHOUSE. So I didn't give a crap when all the people around me were staring at us (almost rudely). We wanted to make sure Lifehouse knew they were loved!! And after a while some others started dancing out too. Lifehouse deserved it! They were awesome!! I wasn't sure at first if I wanted to pay the money and travel the distance for only 8 songs, but I knew the second I saw them that it was worth it. Seeing the guys perform if ever at all is always worth it!
When they finished that powerful rendition of "Broken", the boys got a decent standing ovation from the crowd. The Darien Lake food services manager (who was sitting beside us) said it was the biggest standing ovation he had seen for an opener and definitely the best opener for GGD he's ever seen. Damn straight, baby!
My buddy and I waited patiently at the bus gates for them to hopefully come out. Lots of Goo fans were kicked out and bitched at by security, but they never once said anything to us, in fact they seemed very friendly to me and him lol. But unfortunately after about an hour, they sent us home too... apparently the GGD had family visiting and would likely be there for a while. So it was too bad we didn't get to meet Lifehouse at all... (I'm still heartbroken about it ) but I think they will likely remember their crazy Canadian fans... who showed up at a Buffalo GGD concert... and did nothing but praise Lifehouse with every last ounce of energy .
