I thought we could discuss our opinions on the the Grammy nominations in here. Here's the link in case you don't know who's nominated: www.grammy.com/Grammy_Awards/50th_show/list.aspxUsually, I don't care for the Grammy's because the bands I like rarely get recognition from them, but I think this year is an especially bad year. Nothing for Lifehouse, Amy Winehouse got 6 nominations, Kanye West got 8, and then some other songs that I can't stand (but don't want to list incase it will offend someone) got nominated which kind of pisses me off. Perks: Mute Math got some recognition for "Best Short Form Music Video". Nice to see that. Plain White T's got some recognition, whic is also nice. Unfortuantely, that's all I can think of right now. Anyway, feel free to share your thoughts

i looked at them earlier, most of the nominations i wasn't impressed with, but there were a few surprises i was happy to see. -i'm glad mutemath was nominated because they deserve it for that video -i was also happy to see taylor swift up for best new artist, i think she's adorable and a really great performer -i was surprised but glad to see that corrine bailey rae was nominated for song of the year (i like that song, but didn't think it was getting that much airtime, maybe i'm wrong) -oh and of course i was thrilled to see keith urban's nomination for stupid boy in best male country vocal performance because he rocks and i love that song
that's all i can remember right now...

My picks
Record of the Year: The Pretender/Foo Fighers Album of the Year: These Days/Vince Gill Song of the Year: Hey There Delilah (even though I'm getting sick of it by now) Best New Artist: Paramore (since when are they new though?) Best Female Pop Vocal Performance: Nelly Furtado/Say It Right (not because I like it, but because I really don't like the others) Best Male Pop Vocal Performance: Paul McCartney/Dance Tonight (great song, awesome video) Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals: either Daughtry/Home or Window In The Skies/U2 (don't really care about this one, but these two are the best songs) Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals: Plant & Krauss/ Gone Gone Gone (Done Moved On) .. that was just an easy pick, that was a fantastic team-up Best Pop Instrumental Performance: either Ben Harper or Joni Mitchell, I really can't pick Best Pop Instrumental Album: Don't really care but lets go with Dave Koz Best Pop Vocal Album: Paul McCartney/Memory Almost Full (though I could live with Maroon 5, but their album kinda let me down as a whole, so I guess Paul is my 1st choice) Best Dance Recording: Justin Timberlake's (I'm almost ashamed to admit it, but it's just funkier than the Chemical Brother's, so I'll go with JT, never thought I'd say that). Best Electronic/Dance Album: Tiesto (come on, he's Dutch) Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album: James Taylor at Christmas (come on, James Taylor & Christmas, what more can you wish for?) Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance: Tough call, either Springsteen or Beck, both for different reasons. I guess I'll just go with Beck for this one. Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals: Working Class Hero/Green Day (great version, can't go around it) Best Hard Rock Performance: I wanna go with Pretender/Foo Fighters, but I'm not gonna. The Pot/Tool is even better. Best Metal Performance: Easy pick, Shadows Fall Best Rock Instrumental Performance: Steve Vai's is good, but I just adore Rush's "Malignant Narcissism Best Rock Song: I'll go with Springsteen now Best Rock Album: With pain in my heart I won't vote John Fogerty, but Wilco. Sky Blue Sky is probably in my top5 of 2007 albums. Best Alternative Music Album: Wincing The Night Away/The Shins, pretty damn good record Best Female R&B Vocal Performance: I think I'll go with Jill Scott Best Male R&B Vocal Performance: I'll go with Prince, though I could live with it if Tank wins Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals: I'll go with Bartender Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance: Ryan Shaw Best Urban/Alternative Performance: Dwele Best R&B Song: When I See You Best R&B Album: Tank Best Contemporary R&B Album: Emily King Best Female Country Vocal Performance: Alison Krauss/Simple Love Best Male Country Vocal Performance: These can all win, but if I have to pick two "Dierks Bentley" & "Keith Urban" Best Country Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals: Lucky Man/Montgomery Gentry Best Country Collaboration With Vocals: Oh Love/Brad & Carrie Best Country Instrumental Performance: Throttleneck/Brad Paisley Best Country Song: Long Trip Alone/Dierks Bentley Best Country Album: 5th Gear/Brad Paisley Best Bluegrass Album: Seldom Scene Best New Age Album: Eric Tingstad Best Contemporary Jazz Album: Jeff Lorber Best Jazz Instrumental Solo: Hank Jones Best Gospel Performance: Casting Crowns Best Gospel Song: East to West Best Rock Or Rap Gospel Album: Skillet Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album: Casting Crowns Best Southern, Country, Or Bluegrass Gospel Album: I'll Fly Away (Various) Best Contemporary Blues Album: JJ Cale & Eric Clapton Best Traditional Folk Album: Peter Case Best Contemporary Folk/Americana Album: Tom Waits Best Native American Music Album: Black Lodge Best Compilation Soundtrack Album For Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media: Once/Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova (Glen's from The Frames) Best Score Soundtrack Album For Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media: Rattatouille Best Song Written For Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media: Falling Slowly Best Recording Package: Cassadaga/Bright Eyes Best Historical Album: The Woody Guthrie one Best Surround Sound Album: Porcupine Tree Best Short Form Music Video: I'm gonna go with MuteMath, but the Johnny Cash one would be good too Best Long Form Music Video: Dierks Bentley

^wow, that must have taken a long time.
ok, this may sound stupid, but what exactly is the difference between an album and a record?

I didn't know either, so I looked it up and got an interesting answer: "Record of the Year is awarded for a single or for one track from an album. This award goes to the performing artist and the producer, recording engineer, and/or mixer for that song. Album of the Year is awarded for a whole album, and the award is presented to the artist, producer, and recording engineer for that album. So, in this context, "record" means one song and "album" means the whole collection of songs on a CD or LP. But if "record" really means "song," what's the Song of the Year award for? The Grammy's frequently asked questions page has the answer. Record of the Year is given to the artist who performs the song and the people who produce the track. Song of the Year is also awarded for a single or individual track, but the recipient of this award is the songwriter who dreamed up the song in the first place. " ask.yahoo.com/20020313.htmlInteresting way of looking at things, but I guess that way, everyone that worked on an album/song get's the credit they deserve

With Lifehouse and Incubus being stubbed I have to say I'm pretty satisfied with the nominations.
Kanye is more than deserving for his nominations because his album is about real talk and not crap rap. He's a very intelligent rapper and is very true to himself which I'm glad the Grammy’s recognize. He's far more talented than other rappers.
I've been noticing for the past few years now that the Grammy's are really mixing up their album of the year nominees. Glad to see them adding artist for more than two different genres.
And Amy Winehouses album is in creditable so I'm glad she's in there. I just hope she gets her life together. She's sooo talented, but it going through some tough times.

song of the year is more for the songwritters. it says so on the link in the first post. under each catagory there is a description of what it means. and yeah, this just furthers my belief that the grammys are retarded and that i should still not watch them.

Wow.. I did not know such an extensive list of artist and songs I did not care about could be compiled - but there it is!
I'm happy for Mute Math, Mika, John Mayer.. and that's about it.
Tell me WHY everyone thinks Amy Winehouse is so fantastic? She gets drunk and sings a song.. people do that at karaoke every weekend. Congratulations. Did they actually LISTEN to that Maroon 5 album or just decide if it had their name on it; it's good. It's terrible.. there's so much good music out there! What can you expect though - it's the Grammy's. Their credibility was lost many many years ago.

I remember lifehouse said they were into her at the moment, so i gave her a listen and it was yucky. and the instrumental category never has any post-rock bands

I've never understood why everyone thought Amy Winehouse was so great, either. When I heard Jason say that they thought she was the best new artist, I was more than a little confused, lol. I gave her music a listen, but I just didn't care for it at all. Just my opinion. :-)

lol geesh Koen That was harsh AND cracked me up. I get easily annoyed when people willingly throw away their lives and seem to get admired for it
