Alright, here’s a multi-part review with pieces written by Katie, Elissa and I - It’s probably going to be slightly long so… Skip the part about the Fray and Harry Potter if you like but it's somewhat relevent - anyways; enjoy!
Part 1: The Fray / Charlotte (Tuesday - Thursday) - By: Katie
The Week of Concerts began on Tuesday, July 10 with The Fray at the HiFi Buys Amphitheatre in Atlanta, Georgia. I met up with Kristi about 6:00 and then we went to the Amphitheatre and rocked out to the Fray. While at the Amphitheatre we found a quiet section in the middle of the Concessions where we frantically began to call a North Carolina Radio station (which we could not hear) to attempt to win Lifehouse tickets. We had been calling every two minutes for about 3 hours throughout the day, but it was in that consessions area that we finally broke through to the Radio station DJ who asked me “What two concerts am I giving tickets away too?”
Well, of course, we knew Lifehouse but we had no idea as to the other pair of tickets being given away, but because we had been trying so hard to get these tickets, he allowed us to have them anyway. Kristi and I were screaming and jumping up and down so much that we were meriting odd looks from surrounding people, but we really didn’t care.
After we had won the tickets, we went back to our seats where we continued to watch The Fray Concert. The Fray played all the songs from their album, and some new ones. They also did a cover of Shakira’s Hips Don’t lie, which was much better than Shakira’s version. There was an amazing crowd sing-a-long to Over My Head, which made Kristi very happy. And during Look After You Issiac sang the chorus of Wonderwall which was awesome.
After the Concert it was back to her house for a night of sleep. We got up early the next day and saw Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which was very good despite the fact that it skimmed over the book with disreguard for the finer points of the novel. After Harry Potter we saw Lincense to Wed with Robin Williams, John Krasinski, and Mandy Moore, which was also very good. John was extremely pretty in it, there wasn’t any sex, however.
After our Movie Marathon Day we drove to Charlotte, North Carolina and had dinner at Chili’s where we met Elissa’s husband Brian, then he drove us to their house where we met up with Elissa. She showed us to our room and we unpacked our stuff and then went to Olive Garden where Elissa and Brian had dinner and we met a very nice, very perky waitress. After that, we returned to Elissa and Brian’s house where we stayed the rest of the week.
Part 2: Lifehouse backyard performance at 107.5 KZL in Greensboro (Friday) - By: Elissa
We left house around 10:15 for the show and realized that Elissa’s “Who we are” cd was in Brian’s car, so we had to go by the Wal-Mart and get another cd. Then we hit the road to Greensboro and arrived around 11. It took us a while to find the radio station, but once we did, we got a good parking spot and went to sign in. Everyone stood outside and we got to watch the soundcheck outside. They sang “Somewhere in Between” for the soundcheck. Then they made us line up alphabetically and since Elissa’s last name starts with a D we all went with her and got away with that. We didn’t end getting to sit in the very front, but we still had decent seats and got a few pictures. They only got to play “First Time”, “You and Me” and “Hanging by a moment”, but there were some good moments. Before the show got started, Jason saw a girl standing behind the fence watching them. He immediately said, “hey can we let this lady in, someone get this lady a chair, wait, is it okay that we let her in?”. Of course they said yes and he said “Okay good because she was kinda creeping me out.”
A guy proposed to his girlfriend upfront during You and Me. We also got a wonderful rendition of Rick’s dance to the “Umbrella” song by Rhianna (and this apparently made Jason's ENTIRE life, he was very happy) and Jason told us how they got to hear Rick sing “Umbrella” for 15 hrs on the tour bus. Then they did a question and answer session. Elissa asked them if they enjoy playing at large venues or smaller venues better. Jason’s response was “Hey! I know you! How many shows have you been to?” and I said 8 and he was very happy to see us. He then said that he enjoys both types of venues for different reasons, but he likes the smaller venues because they are more intimate and Elissa chimed in with a “we do too!”. Katie then asked them if they were hot because they were wearing long sleeves… Jason said yeah we are kinda hot but we don’t have anything else on underneath this. Then they decided they were going to do the autographs and photos for everyone and they handed out promo pictures for us to have signed.
We walked up to the guys and they immediately all stood up to give us hugs. We were the only ones who got hugs! They were very excited to see us. I told Jason that I missed them and he said yeah it has been a long time. Then Elissa told Bryce, I am sure you don’t remember me, do you? And he said yes of course I do. Kristi was like okay yeah we have questions. Then Elissa told them about how Kristi and Katie won their tickets and they were very impressed with their mad obsessive skills and winning the tickets without even hearing the radio. Then Elissa told them that we will be at the show in Raleigh on Sunday and Jason said, oh yeah we’ll see you there and Elissa asked him if there was some way to get to see them backstage and he said that security was really tight and it probably wouldn’t work. Rick then asked Elissa, where are we playing on Sunday and Elissa told him him that it was in Raleigh and Rick said oh yeah with Matchbox 20 (with a puzzled look on his face) ? Elissa said.. no, Goo Goo Dolls and he said oh yeah, that was bad. Bryce in the meantime was talking to Kristi and asked Kristi if she was posting on the lifehousemusic board. Kristi said yes oh do you mean the fan club post? Bryce had a sad look on his face and yeah I saw that. Kristi then explained to him that they aren’t mad about the club they want to be sure to see them still and didn’t want things to change and Bryce told her that the reason they created the club was for us and that we shouldn’t be worried and that things won’t change. Bryce also said that they aren’t just going to be keeping the money for the fan club and that it was all going to be coming back to us. Rick also said that he remembered Katie when she asked. We also told them them that this was Kristi’s 20th show and they were very excited about that. Elissa told Jason that she was at the Fort Bragg show on the 4th of July last year and that she saw them even though they got mobbed and Jason said, “yeah that was a really big show”. We asked them if they were going to do a solo tour and they said yes, this Fall and we told them that we were really looking forward to that and that they better do a lot of North Carolina shows. We all got our pictures signed as well as all of our cds. Elissa also told Jason that she got married and that Brian said hi and he said hi back and congratulations. Then they had all of us wait in a group to get photos taken and groups of ten people at a time would get their photo done with them. Katie was able to get right next to Rick and Kristi and Elissa didn’t know where to stand, so Bryce signaled us and told us to come stand infront near him. Then Elissa told Bryce that she really loved the How to Open Random things video and he was very excited that we had seen the video and he liked how random it was and that that was his only talent. Katie also talked to Rick about getting to see his dancing in the How to open random things video and Rick asked her if she liked that better or his Umbrella dance today. They talked about how the video was really good and that he wasn’t as prepared today and he told her that he’d dance for her anytime. Kristi asked Bryce where Ben is and Bryce said he didn’t know and Elissa said, oh yes you do, you have to know where he is and he said I don’t know, he’s sleeping and Kristi said he could have come and been shaking something like a tambourine.
We told Rick to say hi to Sean for us and they all said that it was good to see us and that they’d see us again soon. We then got to have lunch that was catered for the event by Panera Bread.
Part 3: Weekend with Elissa and Brian - By: Kristi
After the Lifehouse show we went back to Elissa’s house and got ourselves Gangsta-fied for our “First Time” cover (hardcore rap style… or not so much). We had a GREAT time making the video and I can’t wait for you guys to see it! Katie is working on editing it now… it’s so damn bad but also amazingly awesome at the same time. We worked on that for an hour and hopefully we’ll atleast get a good laugh out of it I know it cracks us up! When Brian came home we ordered pizza and played a really long game of scrabble.. Brian won and there’s really not much else you can say to describe a game of scrabble - it was very wordy.
On Saturday we got up and Brian made all of us a delicious breakfast of pancakes and cheese eggs - he’s a damn good cook! We decided to go to the Science museum and stayed there for a few hours playing around and having fun. Kristi fell asleep in the planetarium (it’s the best place for napping!). After that we had dinner at O’charlie’s and then went to play some awesome mini-golf - Brian kicked all of our asses as usual but we put up a good fight! Katie and Elissa got 2 holes in one, Kristi got 3 and Brian got more than I care to count. We had a really good time just hanging out together. We eventually went back home and played the longest game of monopoly known to man.. I had never played correctly as a kid so I had to learn the rules all over again. Brian won of course, he owned half the freakin’ board… someday we’re going to find something we can beat Brian at … like deciphering Jayglish - we could OWN him in that No doubts.
Part 4: Lifehouse / Goo Goo Dolls show - by Kristi
Sunday morning we basically hung around the house until it was time to head to Raleigh for the Lifehouse / Goo Goo Dolls show. Elissa’s friend Amber was supposed to go with us but she wasn’t feeling well so it was just us four. We listened to all the Lifehouse CD’s in chronological order on the way there and back - it was cool to hear how they’ve subtly changed over the years. We got there a little early so we hung out at the front gate and ran into the peeping fence lady from the show on Friday and talked to her a bit - she got front row seats for the show that night. They were trying to pimp lemon heads at this show continuously… I think we got like 30 packs between us and they kept trying to give us more. Apparently the show was sponsered by lemon heads We got some dinner and eventually headed to our seats.. they weren’t as bad as we thought they would be but they were still pretty far back. Colbie came on right on time and she was good… but I didn’t really care; I just wanted to see Lifehouse.
Lifehouse finally came on at about 7:45PM and they played (not quite in order:
Spin
Hanging by a Moment
Who We Are
Storm
You and Me
First Time
The Joke
Whatever it Takes
Broken
We rocked out the best we could from our seats way in the back, we did our ghetto singing and hand movements to “First Time” and loved watching Jason getting so extremely into “Broken”. It was a really goos show but with what we’re used to it was kind of a let down… it’s hard to stand in the back and not be able to get up there and interact with them like we’ve grown so accustomed to but headlining tour soon! We tried to go find the guys / bus but the place was so huge there was absolutely no way so we’re VERY grateful that we got to see them on Friday.
Goo Goo Dolls were good… none of us were particularly impressed with them. I really enjoyed “Iris” and “Slide” and of course the crowd sing-a-longs but there were some songs sung by the other guy that were just downright annoying, give the mic back to Johnny. We left before the encore and headed back to Elissa and Brian’s house and pretty much just went to bed.
We got up Monday morning and watched Elissa and Brian’s wedding on video (which was so beautiful) and then headed to Charlotte to meet my mom and Terry to head back to Augusta. Now we’re home and writing review, uploading pictures and videos and about to eat dinner! So I hope this was descriptive enough and that you enjoyed reading it - here’s some pictures and video!
