Another Friday, another single. But this time around, it's the title for Lifehouse - Goodbye Kanan It's a slow one, it slowly builds up and it goes to this encore, I quite like it. And most importantly, it features a clear Jason's vocal hehe So the EP have a total of 6 songs. And it fits with that Jason mentioned last year on their reddit AMA. I guess next year record refers to a proper Lifehouse album with sounds that we've come to expect and love. That being said, I still love each of these new tracks.

Excited to hear this! I'm baffled that the tracks are in the order they've been released thus far, at least if this website is any indication. Are you in Australia, snowfist ? Us North Americans are still a day out it seems. Very excited that the last song has normal Jason vocals! getrockmusic.net/64548-lifehouse-goodbye-kanan-ep.html

I'm in Malaysia. Few hours late than Australia. Usually I check new singles on Youtube Music. Somehow new singles from artists that I listen often appear first on Youtube Music compared to Spotify.
And yes, that's the track listing. As much as I love Cut & Run, I still think Static would be the perfect opener for this EP.

Yeah totally. I would've expected either to start with Static or En Rogue... think when I put this on my phone I'm gonna rearrange it to be: - En Rogue
- Cut & Run
- Chester Copperpot
- Static
- Dragonflies
- Goodbye Kanan
...assuming GK is a good closer. Such an intriguing title. I Googled Kanan and it seems to be a Star Wars character?

I don't know what Kanan is, but this is by far my favorite! How'd you manage to listen to it, Lifehouse Michigan fan?

You literally posted the link above to download it!
It's by far the best in this bunch, and a great closer. Piano driven and raw, with a great build. To me it's very cinematic and absolutely belongs in a movie / soundtrack.
I'm excited to hear everyone else's feedback. I'm absolutely loving this one tho!

Ugh this song is exactly why I think fans are so upset by stuff like dragonflies & ozwald. This is how I Want You To Know should've turned out, it fits in with songs like Flight, Aftermath, Signs of Life, Hourglass... that's a sweet spot I appreciate everytime without fail.
Give me more of this.

Hahahaha hey it's criticism out of love – and my download just finished, so I see why you like this one. The final verse came and I just about died. Insanity. Just nuts.
I wonder where that website got their files from... they're way higher quality than the streaming services and iTunes offer. I can actually hear a tiny bit of spatiality within Dragonflies... where the heck has this been the last six months? Still not as well-mixed as their old stuff (none of this is), but it's a damn sight better than the crap files I've been listening to so far. C'mon guys, why did you take all that flak when it was somewhat avoidable?
Lyrics as best as I can tell. A lot of breathing room in this masterpiece:
There's a chance that this is just a dream There's a chance this isn't up to me Wasn't your fault but the lines were blurred with bloodshot eyes As the headlights left you hypnotized
There's a sound that's coming from the light Broken windows in a broken life There's a boy left in a room, with sunshine creeping through All the colours are about to bloom
I don't know where to begin So I'll start right at the end Yeah it's goodbye, goodbye Kanan [Kay-nin]
I was fifteen, it was summertime Sky was red and the hills on fire There's a canyon where I'd hide It's as deep as it is wide Like the chasm that I felt inside
I don't know where to begin So I'll start right at the end Yeah it's goodbye, goodbye Kanan

www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-2001-oct-18-ca-58514-story.htmlOctober 18, 2001: "Friday night, I’d go to Yamato, a Japanese steakhouse off Kanan Road, or maybe to Lawry’s. Yamato has a great vibe-it’s kind of like Benihana, but a little bit more vibe. I like the seafood, lobster and shrimp. It feels safer, too, when you see your food cooked in front of you." I figured this song was about Jason's childhood, a sort of continuation of Gresham in a way. Seems like the title refers to a road in Los Angeles?

I think you're spot on, Robert. And being (seemingly) about his own childhood similar to the Gresham solo EP, I'm surprised this is wrapping up a LH EP instead.
Regardless, this is probably my favorite of anything since OOTW. I also wish I could tell him personally to go back and record IWTK in this same style. That recording is one of the bigger disappointments they've ever released. When that was primarily a solo Jason on the keyboard live at a concert song, it was incredible & haunting in a similar way to this one.
Anyway, this leaves me much more excited that a return to high quality recordings is still on the table.

Now that's what I'm talking about. This is true Lifehouse sound... Simple, clean vocals, a creative melody, great lyrics. No stupid midi effects or weird reverb effects on everything. More of this. Less of all the other crap that came before it.

Happy for the GK song. Sad that it is just an EP. After 6 years of side projects and uncertainty about the band, an EP of 6 songs is a little disappointing. But being positive now, this is a 5/5 or 4.5/5 work. Cut n Run was the perfect choice for the "we are back" single. Energetic, funny, LH proved they are still kicking like Jason says on the lyrics. Dragonflies is the controversial one. I love the atmosphere, but I agree that the vocals are weird. Static shows an evolution from OOTW with the electronic sound. A good track. En Rogue (one of my favorites here) sounds like the trinity 2005-2010 era. That bridge is pure perfection and we know Jason can do it and evolved his vocals. En Rogue is one of those songs we wait from LH without being predictable. Chester Copperpot I didn't like it at first, but it started to grow on me. It's just nothing special, but like on Cut and En Rogue, it feels like they are having fun . Goodbye Kanan have the trinity vibe. Clean, soft, the build up is gorgeous, the vocals are amazing and the lyrics we like to see in the LH songs. Perfect closing moment.
For me this is a 4.5/5 just because it ends very fast and I'm bittersweet about it.
