If youve never heard of Lawrenceburg, dont worry, either have I. This "festival"
(if you want to call it that) runs in downtown Lawrenceburg once a year and they
usually invite country artists to come play. For some reason in 2019 they invited
Lifehouse and that was enough to get me to come check it out. Unfortunately, the
event organizers were either not trained in running set times properly or were
ill prepared because we ran into a ton of issues. The openers went on a tad late
and it was all downhill from there. Lawrenceburg like to use their Fall Fest stage
to salute the local vets and award them with purple heart salutes every summer.
Its a very rewarding thing (not only for the vets) but also the community in
attendance. This was to start at 815. The problem was it started shortly after 9.
Then, the gentleman who hosted felt it would be a good idea to take up the full
hour with the headliner already behind schedule. Marie Edwards (who helps run
this thing) took the microphone at 915 and made sure to let everyone know
"Lifehouse will be on at 10pm and have agreed to play 75 minutes for you all!"
Their set is usually 85 minutes, so losing one or two songs from this mess was a
win at that point of the night. The problem was (as you will see in the setlist),
that did not happen. We lost a total of 5 songs and their set was barely over an
hour long. They also went on closer to 10:10pm (and not 10 as announced). Gone
were the rarities like "Come Back Down", "Trying", "Learn You Inside Out". We did
get a couple gems, but they mainly stuck to the hits. I left extremely disappointed
after having driven over 2 hours and having to sit through a ceremony that never
should have gone on that late or that long. They made a mention of the Fall Fest
possibly not returning next year due to certain local elections this fall. If they
plan on inconveniencing more people year after year with such a poorly run event,
perhaps its time to end it. The attendance was a joke, anyway. I dont know why
Lifehouse was even booked, to be honest. This was clearly a country town. Also,
"Everything" was not crossed out on the paper setlist, but was still skipped.
On the positive side of things - the sound was awesome & due to the sparse crowd,
I had no one within 10 feet of me the entire show. The weather was also great.
It was slightly hot (it reached 90 before the sun went down), but comfortable
come 10pm. I also received a free last minute meet and greet, which was nice but
was only allowed 10 seconds with the band. The guy running it was literally
yelling at us to move along. Jason did remember me from years ago, which was
very cool to hear. (In the early days, I used to line up to greet them after
shows and would hand them my recordings on CD). In the age of paid M&Gs, I now
opt out, so this was a nice unexpected treat. One final note, the stage was set
up outside directly in front of the Lawrenceburg Community Center.
Jimmy Thomas & Tony Jackson both opened [not recorded].
