I am so so excited for this EP. I haven't liked the production on a lot of the other solo or side project stuff so to hear this is simply his voice and an acoustic??? It's exactly what I've been wanting from him. And I am so intrigued by the personal aspect of the lyrics. I pre-ordered it seconds after hearing the preview of the first song. I can't wait.

Really enjoying this. Also, Gresham is a city in Oregon. Where J spent his early years?

Very beautiful songs. I really like this. Beautiful lyrics. "Polarities" is the only song that need to grow on me. Maybe i like it after listen a few times. It's a beautiful song, but it feels a little bit boring to me. I really love "Independence Day" But i like all of them. I was listening to this with headphones on. Closed my eyes and just listen to just his voice and a acoustic guitar. Telling us his personal stories. Absolutely beautiful.

Okay I'm gonna be brutally honest. It's an alright EP. I really like the depth of the lyrics, they really do seem very personal and I'm surprised Jason put these out publically actually because it's clear who he is talking about in most of them. That said, melodically it's just okay for me. "Polarities" is definitely the weakest song of the bunch. Does that song ever get started?
Some other obversations:
"Afraid No More" starts off sounding exactly like From Where You are, the fingerpicking is the same.
My favorite track is probably "Gresham", it reminds me a bit of You Can Shake The Mountains, chord wise.
Overall, I wish the melodies would hit as hard as the words, some more unexpected chords would have been nice, it just sounds a little too predictable.
6/10

I didn’t realize I needed this EP right now, but damn, I feel every word. I love that it’s acoustic and super personal. Independence Day was really surprising because of how much it revealed about his upbringing. Gresham is also probably my favorite with Dear Pain right behind it. I actually like how simple the music feels because the lyrics are so emotional. It’s a great balance for me, personally.

Have you guys actually received the physical copy yet? I feel like it should have been here already... I came here to ask the exact same question! I haven't gotten mine yet either and thought it was strange.

I’ve taken some time to dissect this a bit and while it is my least favorite solo release of his- it is what it is. It’s a bare boned, heart on the sleeve confessional. I think given some of the changes going on in his life now that it’s natural to not only look at the recent past but the whole thing. I’m actually just more shocked that he felt comfortable releasing these. I’m with you guys as to what the strongest songs are. That’s clear as day. I wish the movement of the music was a little more fluid. These honestly feel like train of thought exercises. They’ve helped me some. I’m glad of that. I’m glad they helped someone else in here. (Sorry I forgot her name) Maybe he just needed to get some things off his chest before diving in on a new Lifehouse project. The more the merrier though, in my mind.
