Best $1.29 I spent in a long time What a beautiful song. Does anyone know if this song is just a simple release or will lead to a full length album? I just don't know since I hadn't heard much about them coming off hiatus, and Bryce has his Komox side project, I'm curious if this is just a "we had a song we wanted to share" type of deal, or if there's an album in the works. I hope its the latter. Not sure either, they did caption the teaser video with "Here's a taste of what's to come", which sounds to me like more than just the other 3:30 of that song. I think a lot of people are pining for Jason to release Paper Cuts, but that seems like its been put on hold; maybe he's focusing his sights on the band first? One thing I noticed that's of note: the copyright information for Flight on iTunes and Amazon says Copyright 2014 Jason Wade, professionally known as "Lifehouse", which sounds to me like anything Jay does will be under the name of "Lifehouse" rather than his own. Could this mean he'd release his own material as Lifehouse? Maybe he's getting Ricky and Bryce in on it, and that's what's taking so long to get it out...
Of course, I'm just a huge fan, I know absolutely nothing about what plans they actually have in store. Just my educated guesses and hopeful imagination
And I agree CVonC, it certainly is a nod to LYIO! I remember Jason saying in more than one interview that it was his favourite song of his recordings, because of the overall sound and the piano part, and he also said that a personal goal of his was to get better at piano. The fruits of his labour have payed off big time here! This is without a doubt my favourite single they've put out since I became a (super)fan, which was mid 2008 just after Broken was released.

"Flight" is amazingly beautiful! Someone noted the tenderness in his voice and I agree. It's definitely reminiscent of LYIO which is GREAT and I definitely have goosebumps from the new song. Gosh I've missed new LH material it's so refreshing and comforting.

I read that there are plans for an album release (also titled Flight) in the early months of 2015. It looks like it is licensed to Jason Wade (under the moniker of Lifehouse) so whether it contains Jason songs or full band songs, I have no idea.

Possible song titles: Alien, Central Park, Flight, Hourglass, LAX, Runaways, Yesterday's Son
(some of those titles may end up being songs written for other musicians though but at least those are some of the titles I didn't recognize but are licensed to Jason/Lifehouse)

If it doesn't end up on a 2015 LH record, then that suggests that he'll eventually release a solo project, as he wouldn't go through the licensing hoops for a song that he doesn't end up doing anything with. I'm very intrigued as to how you can come across these sorts of things!

Actually, that is not necessarily true (even though I agree with you it makes sense). Jason was about to release a worship album years ago but that fell through because of a botched deal (or so I understood) but the songs are still listed with licensing and publishing rights. They just haven't been released (yet)

I like the song very much, and I agree that the ending sounds epic. Would be wonderful to hear live; kinda reminds me of Everything with the building to the end.

Looking back at the band's career, WWA is 2nd place of all-time behind NNF. LYIO is a gem of a song and this is very reminiscent of that. On first listen I was confused as to why they chose to release it as a single because most piano driven ballads are kept as album tracks and they release a poppy guitar driven tune first.
Overall, I like this song a lot after 2 listens. Will I love it? Time will tell. Im excited to see what they release in 2015 after a few years of creative turbulence, if you will. (I still rank Almería at the bottom)... as most here do as well.

I agree with those of you saying Flight sounds like "Learn you inside out" (in the beginning) and "Everything" (the bridge part). I listened to the song on my headphones yesterday, does anyone else hear Jason breathing recorded just before the bridge part? Such a small trick, but it creates this powerful impression of freedom and the happiness it brings, captured in the act of flying.
Oh and Lifehouse posted that the new album #SEVEN will be released in Spring 2015 !

I kinda thought those were just Jason's backing vocals (doesn't sound like Bryce, which is interesting), but I completely agree with the feeling and sentiment they provide. This track has the style of LYIO with the structure of Signs of Life, which is very interesting as I know Jason always liked both. I think the reason they're releasing a piano ballad first is because they can; there are no labels telling them what to do, setting them to a schedule, forcing them to make music they don't want to. I'm surprised, as the second half works great as a single but the hook is comparatively weak for radio purposes. Still, this is my favourite single since Broken.
And I love this news! I'm curious if it will be stylized as "Seven" or "SEVEN", and if they'll put any old tracks on it (again, because they can). I know Jason recorded Along the Way, Wish and Angeline, so fingers crossed that the studio-produced versions of those three make it.

If those tracks make it on the album, personally, I hope they are bonus material (that would be purely from an egocentric point of view because it means more brand new material to enjoy ;-))

I hope Angeline would be on the album because we only have a live version of it (right?). The others can be bonus tracks Although, I kind of hope Wish is not re-recorded. I like the version we have, it's simple, unproduced, and raw -- just what that song needs.
