Whenever I listen to this I think about the changes the band has been through and their search for their personal and musical identities. It's saying that all of the struggles (breaking and bending) help to define them and so they should try to embrace them.
I think he is saying he had a picture of how things were going to be and is now chasing a silhouette (in other words, never attaining the exact picture.)
I like the way it ends by basically saying our destiny is both up to us "in our hands" and not up to us "to the wind" and just vascilates between those two phrases.
I'm also thinking this one is simply Jason's way of telling his bandmates, "I love you goofy bastards!"

Hi Skrappydoo, I finally got here. I like the part were Jason says "what you say and what you said" in our house that means, "don't listen to what I say but what I mean". My hubby loves that line. talk to ya later. I think there might be a little bit of wife in this song.

I love Who We Are, the tone of it, the lyrics, and the uplifting beat "cause we break and we bend and we turn this inside to take it back to the start. And through the rising and falling part we discover who we are."

This is also one of my favorites! However, to be quite frank, I think I suck royally at giving good and insightful interpretations. Here we go!! OK, so basically, I think this song is about treasuring a certain person, and the moment that you met that person, and trying not to change how things were in the beginning. It's also about the sacrifices that you make in a relationship, but it through these hardships and difficult sacrifices that you learn who you and the other person are. In other words, without these sacrifices and changes, you're not able to understand your true identity. That's how the And We break/and we bend/ we turn it inside out/ to take it back to the start/ and through the rise and fall/we discover who we are part comes into play. It is essential in all relationships to be yourself and to give all you have to that other person as well as fufilling your own needs, but to become fully "responsible" in the relationship you must have fights and you must "bend and break" to get to the identity part of yourself and your role in the relationship and to discover "who you are" and "who we are" as the couple. Sure, everyone may want the relationship to be like it was in the beginning, you know all "perfect" and "lovey dovey" and that's why I would assume you would "live your life around the picture taken when we met" because you want it to be that way. However, for it to turn out the way you want it, there must be challenges and you must reveal and discover your true identity. I apologize if this is REALLY confusing! I tend to use a lot of my "social worky" feelings when getting involved with things like this. Again, kudos to Jason, the lyrical MAN! I hate you don't hate me for being late to the party here but I just had the time to read these area of the board. Anyway.... I agree with this . To sum it up it sounds like a journey to self discovery with the help of a really good relationship where two people bring out the best in each other and make sure neither loses their independant sense of self, if that makes sense. Hmmm. I like that interpretation! I always just thought it was more about a relationship but now that I think about it...yeah that one makes sense.

We should discuss Only One! I love Who We Are, it has a great message "And through the rise and falling apart we discover who we are."

Yeah, we should! OO is a very cool song, and I'd like to delve deeper into it! Interpreting Lifehouse's music somehow makes me feel more complete. am I insane??

I don't think so, but then again, I might be insane too. So don't ask me! I'll think about it some more if anyone wants to start the topic, I'll be sure to chime in (as usual).
