Sigur Rós consists of Jón þor (Jónsi) Birgisson (vocals, guitars), Kjartan (Kjarri) Sveinsson (keyboards), Orri Páll Dýrason (drums) and Georg (Goggi) Holm (bass). The band were formed in 1994. They hail from Iceland, and rightly claim to bring you the beautiful landscape of their homeland with their music.
Sigur Rós have released four albums so far. Von, Ágaetis Byrjun, ( ) and Takk. But another one is coming in a couple of days, a masterpiece. Hvarf/Heim, a hauntingly beautiful collection of songs, exceeds any word from any language, it is very hard to explain. If you listen to any of these songs (Salka, Samskeyti, Hljomalind, Von) with your eyes closed, you can see what you have always loved. Whether it’s a place, a thing, a person, a moment, a memory, it doesn’t mater, as long as you keep your eyes closed, it feels so real. It's delicate, fragile, emotional and moves me to tears. I defy anyone not to be moved by this.
I count myself utterly lucky to be a part of this band’s art.
Absolute Brilliance, 9.5/10.
Genre(s): post-rock with melodic, classical, experimental, minimalist elements.
Recommended tracks: Salka, Samskeyti, Hljomalind, Von, Vaka, Heysatan .
