Surprised to see no one posted about last night’s show. They actually changed up the setlist a little bit (MMO, Mesmerized, Raindrops…) and they played Cut & Run! It sounded great live and seemed to get random non-Lifehouse fans into their set more than anything else did.
Only thing that made no sense to me is why in the hell they picked so many slower songs for headlining a true rock festival. They make such weird choices sometimes. And sorry for the unpopular opinion, but Mesmerized has always been an absolute dud to me. The lyrics are trying too hard to be Jason’s typical “deep” lyrics and come off as tacky, but even worse is that the song itself can’t decide if it’s slower, mid tempo, upbeat…it lives in some awkward territory that makes it Un-listenable to me.
Anyway, overall they sounded great! They even opened with Spin and ditched the horrible Nintendo intro!
Here’s to hoping for more Cut & Run style songs to come! It sounded great on them and fits perfectly in their set.

That’s fantastic that they played Cut & Run, can’t wait for it to pop up online.Strange to play slower songs if the show is meant to be a rock show, but those are three solid choices in my mind. I hope nothing pushed Come Back Down out of rotation though… that trumps all And fair enough about Mesmerized hahaha — I can see all of those criticisms. It’s funny, I’m a Mesmerized fan primarily for the instrumentation on the album version. I think it’s the tempo, beat, specific chords in the acoustic base to the song, and the piano mixed with the sound of Jason’s voice that’s just really calming and comforting, maybe despite more generic lyrics. Objectively the song is alright, but subjectively it always makes me feel really good they haven’t played it live since 2008 (where they played it once) though so I’m very interested to hear how it sounded the other night.

Having traveled down to Charlotte from Detroit specifically for Lifehouse (and Vertical Horizon on day 2), I hate to admit Lifehouse should not have headlined that 1st night. Crowds poured out once they started slowing it down. It was kind of sad to see since they were still far and above the best band playing that day, but they just didn’t fit with the bands on day 1. The next day with VH, Sister Hazel…even Saving Abel & 311…would’ve been a far more cohesive lineup. O well! I’m sure it was just more about scheduling & I wouldn’t be surprised if Lifehouse was somehow contractually setup from the Orlando festival they backed out of to remain a headliner, and day 1 just fit for them better. Who knows. They were great anyway! Here’s a picture of the setlist someone else shared on Twitter. Only changes to note: no Nintendo intro for Spin, Breathing & FWYA were acoustic and some dick yelled to Jason to skip FWYA, and HBAM was pretty much played thru. No sing-along, no a cappella section like usual. It was funny because out of habit I feel like Jason actually stumbled at that part.
Edit: don’t see how to post a picture so here’s what they played…
Spin, MMO, First Time, Raindrops, SSC, Wrecking Ball, Breathing/FWYA (acoustic), C&R, Halfway Gone, Mesmerized (J said it’s one of his favorites), Whatever It Takes, Broken, Y&M, HBAM

I really thought that Bryce would sing the high notes on Cut n Run. I'm so happy that Jason still does it. And the vibe matches so well with the stage. It feels like going back to 2014 when Flight was released.
